Why would Merc move drastically away from a winning design?

I bet they've worked hard to incorporate the new nose so it disturbs their known aero as little as possible.

I'd love to know what you expected them to change given the aero rules?

The bumps by the engine cover were removed when the size of the engine cover (increased cooling) was presented in Australia 2014. The bumps around the suspension were omitted with the 2014 Barcelona upgrade.

Yeah, looks like the cover is larger in that area, flows over them rather than hug them. That's the only major change I see other than a slightly modified W05 launch nose to fit regulations.

Right, I'm comparing launch to launch. This really looks like a late model W05 with a W06 nose, like what was pointed out earlier. No additional roll hoop cooling inlets, though.

Seems to be a big bulge at the rear of the side pods, where the suspension arm goes through the bodywork.
