Scuderia Ferrari SF15-T

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

According to Scarbs it is new front wing with even more elements than before (8 instead of last seasons 7) on the outside next to endplate

That's where the roll hoop camera mounts.

That pcture is from 2007? I think that must have been in testing, as I think the rules required the camera housings then as well.

Edit: You can see the camera housing in all the launch pics.

yes, this picture is f2007.
but this piece is for testing (schumacher f2007 test), or for f1 clienti, not for race car or testcar Ferrari team.

this is not a piece for SF15-T, it's just a wrong way for us, Ferrari use this tip for make some teasing.

Main plane is pretty much the same, flaps are same (SF-15T has additional element on the rearmost flap), three element cascades are the same...

What is not the same are (spell check please  ) the endplates.
There is no strake on top of endplate with that slit in it, and all the wing flaps are curved all the way down to the footplate.

On F-14T rearmost wing flaps were merged with the inner side of the endplate.

"The real “punto debole”, or weak point of the 2014 car was of course the power unit, which was poorly conceived by the Ferrari engine men and they face a long road to catch up. The Gazzetta dello Sport’s Pino Allievi, whose finger is closer to the Maranello pulse than any other F1 journalist’s, says that Ferrari PU has 80hp more than last year’s, due to new layout, better combustion and a more efficient MGU-H, recycling heat energy to maximise the turbo. This power gain is encouraging, but Allievi notes that the gap was 60hp last year and Mercedes is understood to have added 50hp with its 32 tokens spent over the development phase. So that puts the Ferrari still around 0.5s to 0.7s a lap behind the Mercedes when operating at the maximum. Ferrari’s engine people implied that the lion’s share of the tokens have been used up already, so there will be some updates during the year, but not any game changers."

Well it seems they are now 30HP behind Mercedes with not much chance to improve significantly..

Mercedes has barely used any tokens yet. They will already have gains over 2014's engine simply with the variable inlet trumpets.

Ferrari are didging the endplates, or rather the concepts behind them, they were using since 2012. It's interesting because I feel nowadays there are 2 general concepts in F1 concerning endplate/wing element designs: the red bull concept, and the mercedes concept. Ferrari switched from the former to the latter.

Expect those wing elements to change.

If Ferrari have gained 80hp that would be phenomenal, let's hope that's true.

There are various different estimates of the deficit last year but most seem to be in the 50-60hp range, so let's say Mercedes have added 50hp, if Ferrari have halved that it's a huge result.

The f14t was notoriously difficult to drive too, so (presuming the above) just giving the drivers something easier will help get them in the same zip code again. And I think the real aim here is to just not to let Mercedes have it all their own way; last year there were times that they could dictate strategy/turn down engines because they were so far ahead, the goal this year should be to make them have to work for it and (very long story short-ish) I think the reputed 80hp gain would do that.

James Allison says the 2014 PU was responsible for 60% of the deficit to Mercedes & 40% was the Chassis/Aero. He says both were weak. The F14T was lacking rear DF so in an attempt to fix that in 2015 the rear wing family is new and more stable in wet, dry & windy conditions. The rear brake duct arrangements are all new as well as the cut out between the rear tyre and the floor.

Edit: Seb going out for his installation lap in Jerez..

So now that we have the Nose Regulations almost covered the Camera placement should be next on the List. They were ugly on the F14T and the W05, but this is just plain stupid. Some goes for the W06 btw.
