Mclaren MP4-30 Honda

Exactly, it isn't a linear scale like that, at least when you get into larger power deltas like 100HP. Like Jenson mentioned in a quote someone posted, that large of a difference has a snowball effect - you have to use more fuel, which causes you to have to save more fuel... which makes you go even slower. Not to mention it will affect your tire performance and probably a whole host of other things on the car.

Moreover, it will not be easy for us in cooler conditions to get temperature in the tires, so that any progress will not be immediately visible. "

Could those tubes be integrated into the carbon fiber to save weight?

If you're referring to the horizontal tubes, those are the crash structure, and no, you can't save weight there - they're a mandated design.

I thought the limiting factor on the PU was temp. So I was under the impression with the lower temps in China, they'd be able to crank up the power on the PU. They seem to be down playing that and playing up the aero and tire disadvantages of the cold.

I hope they're just being coy.

The tire temperature issues could improve if only they went faster.

So if they could crank up the pu due to cooler conditions they could go faster, use tyres better etc., no?

I guess the ambient temperature drop just isn't enough to be able to turn the pu up.

Their lack of mileage was the limiting factor once in Melbourne because they had only a very basic understanding of the needed setup to the Australian range of temps, so they ran in safe mode.

The temperature problem is more specific to some components, and where they sit within the engine, not seemingly track temp related.

I guess they are now considering tyre temps. If they are slightly slower in the straitghs, they may cool down tyre too much, and those are not regular tyres, the're designed with very narrow margins for optimal use. Perhaps their sims are not looking good due tio this snowball effect.

as far as i understood the problem here is that everyone reduces cooling in those cold temperatures. this leads to mclaren losing the advantages of their tight car.
correct me if i'm wrong
