So why do you think Williams was so slow in ultimate pace? Heavy fuel I guess?

Williams is always a bit down on the one lap times in FP. Ferrari is typically a little lighter than the others. It looks like we might have a good race. I hope it doesn't rain so Williams can stay in the mix.

I've seen that before, another no excuses GP before the race for Ferrari drivers and something completely different afterwards. It depends on qualifying: if Rosberg/Hamilton don't mess it up I expect them to be in front. On this track, tyres and on a one-stopper no race pace will help Ferrari. If it's two stops something might happen but I doubt it.

This is going to be a great race especially since, there will be changing conditions come race day, we may start the race on a drying track. The nature of this circuit doesn't give Mercedes their usual advantage since there are no slow speed corner combinations, and now other cars are matched on power, aero, and braking. It's really very close among all teams with the lap time difference of no more than a second or so in absolute pace. I think really 1:11 is the max sustainable race pace with the amount of fuel they're allowed to carry, sure the cars are capable of more, I'm sure someone will do a 1:07 tomorrow, but for the race distance I don't think you can get away with more than one or two laps if you managed to save fuel.

That was a nice welcome change! Arrivabene even going to the extent of sacrificing himself for the sake of the team. Such devotion! :D

Hopefully the performance of the red cars will hold tomorrow and on Sunday. Any little mistake is going to be punished by the track and by other teams since there is little to choose from in terms of difference in lap times.

I fully expect gaps to appear come FP3 and qualifying, not big gaps mind you, but gaps none the less. I think what we saw today was all the teams/drivers having difficulties with set-up. Something about this track, makes getting the car balanced/tuned right more difficult than other tracks.

Something about the final sector for Lewis. He looked very quick in sector one and two again but threw it away in the final sector, the same as actual qualifying last year. Think he needs to tone it down a notch in sector three and he'll be about there with Vettel and Rosberg.

It's nice to see Ferrari are once again a genuine threat, hope it'll shut the complainers up. Finally, looks like another glum weekend on the cards for Daniel Ricciardo. And there were people here claiming he has proven himself enough to be considered the best on the grid!

He claimed he was four tenths up on Rosberg at the second sector... Ominous if he figures out how to keep it on the black stuff in S3.

This year's fp2 time is slower than last year. I wouldn't bet on any records being broken.
