Thanks to everyone who submitted an entry - there are 10 entries for round 3, but with a couple of new teams this time. The rulebook compliance checking and CFD simulations will start shortly.

An update on the rulebook - 7 votes were received:
- 5 yes
- 2 abstain
- 0 no

Based on this, we will use the proposed rulebook for round 4 onwards. The rulebook is available on this page: http://www.khamsinvirtualracecarchallen ... lenge-2015

As mentioned in the email, there were some minor changes to some of the templates, so make sure that you're using the most recent parts.

Hi Chris, could you explain the new K4.5 rule? The intent is clear but I did not understand some of the details, in particular: which is the function of the offset surfaces? The cooling path should not intersect that surfaces? The geometry I submitted for the 3rd race would be ok? I think that I would need to translate the cooling inlets to make them more distant from the cockpit template.

Hi guys,

just quickly wanted to say hello to you all! I've finally managed to finish a car and submit it for this race. It will be anything but fast, though I like it as a start.

Looking forward to some fun!

My team is called sjns-Racing. Maybe next year I'll be more creative on that side. :D

Welcome to Steven and Kineuton! It's great to see new entries.

A note about the results for round 3: we would normally have released the results this weekend, but unfortunately it will be a bit later for this round.

Hi Chris, could you explain the new K4.5 rule? The intent is clear but I did not understand some of the details, in particular: which is the function of the offset surfaces? K4.5 is not really a 'new' rule, the wording at the end of K4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 related to the 'plausible volumes inside the bodywork' have been moved into K4.5, and it will be judged roughly the same as those requirements were. The main difference is that previously if the flow from the cooling inlet to the outlet, for example, traveled through the space between the engine template and the bodywork surrounding it, then the space required between the bodywork and the engine template for the 'plausible volume' was completely subjective. There is still some subjectivity in judging this rule, but the offset guide is there to give you an idea for how much space should be left between the bodywork and the internal templates in these areas. Looking at your entry for round 3, it would almost be legal, but there is a small area above the sidepod where the bodywork would be slightly too close to the drivetrain template (I've emailed you an image).

K4.5 only applies when the internal volumes (eg the imaginary volume inside the bodywork where flow from the inlet would travel to the outlet) are formed by the space between the drivetrain template / cockpit template and the bodywork surrounding those templates. If these volumes don't wrap around the internal templates, eg if the cooling inlets and outlets are both at the side of the car, then K4.5 isn't relevant.

There's a little under 8 hours until the deadline for the resubmissions - we're waiting for a resubmission from TF and Mantium.

Hi guys,

I wrote a small article about what I did to the car this time:

Most of the cars show a costant evolution. I could not prepare for this race, so my target is the forth place. I guess three teams for the podium: Variante, JJR and Mantium, that last one could be more than an outsider. I' m also sure that TeamFuria will be among the best teams in the last three races (efficiency tracks).

Brief comments time, i guess...

Brook M. : looks gorgeous to my eyes. Already made observations about it in the dedicated topic.

CAEdevice : new rear end, especially. Are you using a JJR like diffuser? Nice RW endplate...i was temped to study something similar...

JJR R. : larger FW cascades, suggesting that rear downforce has been further increased (especially considering the slight front biased distribution from the previous race!).

Kineuton : very elegant design! However, history suggests a bigger front wing would be better...

Mantium RAY : revised rear bodywork? I expect impressive performance from that. (i'm still not convinced about that kind of front wing....i know you're convinced of the exact opposite  ).
EDIT: i've just read you article: excellent and very informative. It's going to be a tight race, i guess and hope.

Mercury M. : a crazy machine!

sjns R. : very elegant, like Kineuton's. Nice front wing assembly design...central section inspired by CAEdevice, maybe?

Talno R. : nice move: it seems like you've spotted last round problems and corrected them in the most logical way.

TF: already commented in its own topic. But again: with a front wing that car would be on the podium...

Variante : well done! Beautiful car! Astonishing design! Slightly new front wing...more elegant, indeed! I bet the real news lie underside the rear bodywork!

@Variante: I tried to develop a JJR style diffuser, but I had no time to make it work (my geometry has been frozen about a month ago). Finally I used the original diffuser with a new rear wing and new rear wheels cover. A completely new car will be ready for the next races.

PS: I'm sure that something happens when Mercury's car touches 88mph.
