I just watched the race again; On the lap when Rosberg pitted he was losing a lot of time, locking up and as a result of this, the gap was below 1 second before he pitted to Hamilton (0627s just as he pitted).
On the live-timer, after Rosberg came out, the gap started out as 22.290s, 22.309s, 22.365s, 22.484s and then he was behind Button losing time (gap to Button 0.775s - gap to Lewis at that point 22.454s) - meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton just set the fastest lap with his 1:14.303. On the live-timer, the gap continued; 22.670s while Button was still ahead of Rosberg -> gap increasing. Then Hamilton lost it.
From this data, assuming identical pit-stop times, we can conclude that the gap, that was 0.627s when Rosberg pitted, came down by another 3 tenths. So would have been down to 0.3 at various points while both were on the track in different places. The only relevant questions - again, assuming identical pit-time for both - is if Hamilton could further reduce that gap by another 4 tenths. I unfortunately don't have the official sector times from those laps, but from the live-timer, it seems Hamilton was faster than Rosberg, despite the older tires. Perhaps not by much anymore, but it could have at least set him up to come out side by side with Rosberg. It was very close and if I felt there was a track where perhaps staying out a lap longer could make him jump someone attempting the undercut, I think this one was it (also helped by the fact Rosberg was marginally held up by Button).
We'll never know for sure. But a slightly quicker pit-stop (which I think Hamilton usually doesn't have anyway) I think would have sealed the deal.
Anyway, in regards to this weekends race; I think the driver into the lead after the first few corners will win the race. Overtaking is very difficult here and the chance to outperform soemeone who is undercutting you is probably not going to happen. Given that Lewis hasn't been the strongest at interlagos, I think I'll go with Rosberg for pole and win.
