Hamilton told in an interview after quali he isn't allowed to make his own calls again tomorrow, so there you go.
Exactly, how many times last year did they put Nico on an alternate strategy last year, to give him a chance to win! Unless I missed something, Lewis had an extra set of options in Mexico, that they could have put on when they made the precautionary pit stop, but that didn't happen.

wow just wow....what a load of cr*p
...... pass Rosberg on track how about that concept? Mercedes was absolutely correct to pit them both if they had doubts that the tires would last till the end.they put the plan in motion and both drivers did not want to pit again....after Rosberg pitted Hamilton saw his only chance for victory and decided he was going to stay out untill he got told in no uncertain terms to pit.
some of you are just butt hurt that hamilton didnt win. and are buying into the coded nonsense Hamilton is saying about the team coddling Rosberg. no clue what he is whining about after winning the drivers champonship 2 years in a row
as far as fitting Hamilton with softs.... notice what happened to the red bulls on softs after the restart? the medium was the better tire.....

That really sucks. What is the point of racing then? If one driver can eek out more life from the tyres why should his advantage be nuliffied? What a disgrace!

The point is Rosberg didn't need to pit either. The team made the call and Rosberg would have pitted only on the basis that Hamilton would be pitted too. If they were left to race then Hamilton would still have had to pass Rosberg on track. The risk being that one or both ran the tyres down to the tread and crashed out.

For as long as Mercedes enjoys the advantage that they have, we will continue to be robbed off genuine racing. Until then, alternate tyre strategies, difference in pit stop timing and all other racing aspects have to wait.

They both would have reached then finish on the old tyres. Just if a safety car would come in the final laps ( which did came) the both would be sitting ducks for the guys with fresher tyres after the restart.

In that case Hamilton would be the one fighting the faster car and Rosberg would sail awayway.

- Five in a row. That's why you need an accumulation of bad decisions and failures in the middle of the season, just to be on the safe side. Like Coulthard said it's like him and Hakkinen.
- Why the sudden interest in strategies and theories without a single fact to back them up? See above. Prediction, this interest will disappear if it's Hamilton leading after first corner. Let me remind you then Australia and "save fuel to attack on the last lap" :) fact.
- Ferrari should be quicker but it looks close enough between them and Williams. Pity Bottas shot himself in the foot with a penalty but it might still be interesting.

At least I have been saying all year that, it is bad that they have this stupidity of EQUALITY. It may go either drivers' way, but at least there would be some amount of unpredictability to it. It would be fascinating on the race engineers' part to out smart each other's garage. Knowing that the leading driver is ALMOST set for a win, doesn't really help watching the whole race, unless you are a fan of the leading driver. May be that opens up more opportunities for Nico. But that would be great fun to watch.

Or they could pit for new tires when the safety car came in, you know like everyone else did(bar Perez).

They pitted both cars because Hamilton's tyres were too far gone after the first stop. So in essence they should have pitted Hamilton and keep Rosberg out, but not keep Hamilton on track while pitting Rosberg.
I wonder how the Hamilton fanboys would feel about that.
Thank you really doesn't really describe enough what I feel. - Vettel

Normally you would expect like the previous years that there´s a bit back and forth since they are so close in performance.
As Rosberg himself has said, last year he concentrated on qualifying, but to the detriment of race pace where Hamilton was clearly faster. This year he tried to concentrate on race pace, but wasn't quick enough to beat Hamilton and so after the summer break has gone back to concentrating on qualifying pace figuring he might as well take the high ground, better race strategy and make Hamilton beat him.

Let's be honest it's the only chance Rosberg has, and even then it's a pretty slim one as whilst he's arguably shown himself to be quicker than Hamilton over a lap, he's just not as quick or consistent in races.

It's still 10 or so poles in favour of Hamilton, which doesn't consider issues like Germany/Hungary 2014 and the mean gap between them is about a tenth in Hamilton's favour. So it's not really arguable right now but I would say Rosberg is the fastest team mate Lewis has had. Even quicker than Alonso. Just not refined to think on his feet with race craft, and handle pressure.

did they held up Hamilton intentionally to let Rosberg pass?
