Max Verstappen thinks it is unfair to contrast his overtaking moves in the Brazilian Grand Prix with the struggles that Lewis Hamilton had against teammate Nico Rosberg.

While Verstappen was the star of the show – and his efforts included a breathtaking move on Sergio Perez - Hamilton complained afterwards that he got stuck behind Rosberg as it was 'impossible' to overtake.

The different experiences of the two drivers triggered some debate on social media, but Verstappen was adamant that the circumstances of his charging drive were very different to what Hamilton faced fighting an identical car.

"With a Mercedes, maybe they have problems when they are very close to each other," explained the Toro Rosso driver.

"Plus, their speed is higher, and they both had good pace, so maybe it is more difficult for them.

"I know when the Toro Rossos are behind each other it is difficult to get past, so if you have the same type of car it is very hard."

Different strengths

Verstappen believes that the key to allowing overtaking in F1 is that the two cars battling each have strengths in different areas.

"We have very good cornering speed, so if we are behind a Lotus, Sauber or Force India we catch up in the fast corners, even when we are behind," he said. "So that is different for sure.

"For them [Mercedes], it is equal everywhere – on the corners and the straights. When your car is exactly the same as your teammate and you are behind, it is very tough.

"And when you are behind, you lose a lot in the fast corners. So I can understand Lewis saying that."

I rest my case...
Wow, Verstappen at age 18 is already consoling Hamilton fans. Imagine what kind of superstar this kid could be in the future, sheer class.
Not sure if I get what you are saying but why would he want to console Hamilton fans?
More like he is teaching the fans who are new to and ignorant of the mechanics of overtaking. It Does not sound like he is addressing Hamilton fans who happened tohave gotten quite seasoned in observing nd analyszing elite overtaking maneuvers over the years. I hear tgose Hamilton fans have the equivalent of phd's in overtaking analysis.

I just realized that after having spend virtually the entire Brazilian GP in the lead, Rosberg has eclipsed 1000 laps led.

He's already got more pole positions than any other non-WDC. Only 180 laps in the lead and 3 wins away from surpassing Stirling Moss, which should be inevitable if Mercedes' 2016 car is still the benchmark.

He is well on his way to becoming the most successful non-WDC of all time, which is quite ironic given his father's career.

He also earned a good amount for charity too! Maybe that was the plan all along, make it look like Hamilton can challenge for the lead but really it was all a ploy to donate a decent amount to charity. #Conspiracy #Jester

What's the story of Massa's appeal - has it been heard and dismissed, or has he been re-instated?

I did wonder how the tyre temp was so much higher than it should have been. How did that happen?

Smedley too, that's why he's leaving for Haas ( no). Politics: http://en.f1i.com/news/34096-smedley-ex ... ppeal.html
And Smedley was left unhappy with the FIA's reasons for imposing the penalty, despite the evidence he had taken with him to the stewards."There was no explanation whatsoever. They explained to us that this is the reference measurement because it is the FIA measurement so this is the one that counts. The other three we have are of less consequence."
Just like Mercedes situation from Italy, only then they did consider other measurements. Can anyone still pretend it's not equal and more equal and they give or not give penalties based on a name and a team?

Maldo's penalty. Only onboard but it looked similar to Nasr-Button and Ric-Vett Mex was worse. There were dozens of more serious collisions that were ignored, some of them ten times more one-sided. Raikkonen loses the car on his own crashes with Alonso, Button drives into Maldonado on purpose to take him out (Sing), Bottas turns into Raikkonen for a collision (the only possible outcome) as a retaliation - no one to blame. Here 5 s, same penalty as for Button for driving into Maldo at high speed attempting nothing (Chn) #-o .

Its not the same. In italy the FIA took the pressure as separate from the temperature. Thats why it was overturned.
