Kimi using different tires at the same time in chinese GP

Post

Has any1 noticed kimi racing with the dry soft tyre on the right front, and the dry hard on the left front ?? i dunno about the rear ones they weren't shown on the onboard cam. Is it possible to gain performance using this strategy ?? I would be most grateful if some1 can explain how that works. I will post a pic as soon as i can find one.

thank you

The front left was worn out so much that the white line became not visible

When you give this kind of comments, at least start watching F1 more offen and full races.

You mean Chris Goodwin. He should know better, being McLaren employee and all.

Your comment/question was fine, some people are just a$$holes and assume that if they know the answer of the question cuz of their high and mighty 90 whole posts, they dont need to answer your question just belittle you.

I thought the same thing briefly, but assumed it was down to wear.

i think massa had both hard and soft tyres, according to commentator, under normal(no rain) racing circumstances you are not allowed to put different tyres, only one set of same tyres, all soft or all hard, but when its raining and when the track is wet you are allowed to do anything with tyres, as shanghai track features more left turns ferrari had hard tyres on the left front(i think).

You aren't allowed to use different compounds for same car at a time  The commentator must have meant that you don't have to use both softer and harder dry compounds (Medium and Hard for Chinese GP) during the course of the race in case the race is wet.

maybe, but still he said when its raining you can use different compound tyres, you can put anything on your car. but when its not raining and its normal track condition, only one set of same compound tyres.

maybe he was wrong. me too i was thinking because they are more left turns graining on the left tyres was more and that we coudnt see the white trace

Not quite, the rules say: in dry conditions you must use at least one set (all four tires at once) of each spec tire during the race. So you can do two stints on the 'soft' and finish on the 'hard' or whatever.

But, in the event of rain tires being used at all during a race, this rule is not applicable.

- Also, in F1, using different spec tires at the same time, as NaZzO queried, would be pointless. It would be too hard to get the right set-up for the car and would be seriously dangerous under heavy breaking. Imagine trying to get the car balanced when one side of the car had 12% (e.g.) more grip when you slammed on the breaks!!!

well i would have to disagree there Rob, it might 12% laterally, but no way under decelerating!

They do it LOTS in other motorsports. And in some where they are not allowed to fit different compounds, they only change for eg, the left side or right or just the rears. It's not that hard to setup for either. To begin with, I doubt any cars have symmetrical setups anyway.
