Let's not forgot the padding on the sides of the head has been enlarged, as well as the bodywork right behind the head. This all has an impact.

Everyone happy? Seems that Toto wasn't bluffing. Very similar to W06 despite the engine cover and rear.
But the changes are more visible than I anticipated.

So the car is sexy again! check!

Let's hope it has the speed and reliability as well!

Airbox looks like its split and also massive.

It's huge! Surely the 2016 Mercedes PU doesn't need so much cooling, does it? Unless it's team specific.

It's huge but I can't see the inlet for ERS cooler or whatever it cooled that small air inlet below the main air intake.. Maybe they used just one big inlet for everything and made partions inside it.. Like I can see 4 partions on that pic already. I don't know I can be wrong too.

Unless I'm much mistaken the Williams' airbox is nowhere near that big...what's going on??

If I had to guess I'd say it's a 360deg camera rig.

Maybe they're just being coservative for the shakedown and reduce cooling and everything during the tests?

I don't know, It kind of gives the impression Merc are going a slightly Mclaren route, smaller sidepods, more cooling up top, stupidly big airbox and fatter from the airbox back to the exhaust but smaller everywhere else. We'll see, the sky pictures are too poor quality to see but it does looks a like it's more top heavy as last years Mclaren was.

Yeah it seems to have a big roll hoop intake (and a larger nose?)... A roll hoop intake similar to the STR9 and 10 which feeds the compressor and cools something bigger than the usual gear-box/ERS fluids?

Mercedes seems to have traded smaller sidepods for an airbox that takes on much more of the cooling air duties. The airbox looks huge while the sidepod inlets are significantly smaller with a very extreme undercut . I assume the negative CG impact of the higher mounted radiators is outweighed by better diffusor performance. The larger airbox would also be a negative for the rear wing.

Side' pods looks exactly the same as Wo6. Nose seems to be very fat, it also appeared the same in "spray paint" teaser photo.
