Red Bull RB12 TAG-Heuer

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Wow!
That gives a whole new meaning to 'Size Zero'.
Here's seriously impressed by the level of compression. That's when I thought the SF-16 looked sleek at the back.

RB11 was already very thin at the back... RB12 is a bit more thin

I would suspect lift reduction on the underside of the tub (more net down-force), and also it may improve efficiency of the floor downstream of it.
For Sure!!

But you have to appreciate that the Ferrari follows that exact same shape at the back, underneath the upper bodywork where they *choose* to have it flare outward.

This is likely to guide airflow, but regardless: if they wanted the bodywork to do the same as the RB, it seems likely they would have just kept it the same as the bottom part.

Incredible how the headrest now wraps around Dan's helmet too, it's like the car was shrink wrapped around him!

Even from this angle you can tell how much rake the car is running.

Imho the new splitter vane could help to reduce downforce at higher speeds by lifting the T-Tray.

I wonder why they've 'spent the weight' to put those straps between the exhausts. No other team did this, right?

Looks like titanium, so I guess it's probably only 12g...

Looks like they'd cut down unwanted vibrations from having then so close to the main exhaust.

Edit they aren't straps, they are welded supports I think.

Yeah 'straps' was shorthand for a beautiful piece of bracket :)

All the teams have them in close proximity though, just found it curious. It's quite high to be adding weight, in the obsessive world of F1.
