It depends. I know if this were a golf ball the air 'adheres' to the boundary layer a lot further along the ball than it would to a smooth one; creating less drag in the separated region. However the smaller the frontal surface area becomes in relation to the surface parallel to the airflow the greater the role the parallel surface plays in creating drag. So the answer is I don't know
