Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

This might have already been addressed but does anyone know what causes the really throaty growl mid to late corner in the RA616H? I hear it in some of the other engines but its more prominent in the Honda.

Alonso said in yesterday's interview that the 80% of the Honda engineers are young and non-expert in F1. The other 20% we all know who they are...

Who are they? I don't know, and I'm sure there are others also?

Well, the 00 and 90's engineers did not exactly cover themselves in glory and the 80's technology was child splay to what we have now. Cant even compare, did they have ers experts then? Li chemistry batteries?
Also is it official or just a wild rumour?

That's only one person, surely they have more than a 5 person team.

Looks like the first change the Old Boys Club did was telling Mclaren they needed more cooling for their PU.

That was the problem with Aria(he was just "yes" man!) and his young engineers just followed his lead(that is the Honda Way,can only speak up after hours while drinking).

So this fits in with the rumor of no great improvement until round 11(July).

Starting with Aria lead PU then getting Old Boys Club updates.

"The engine in the McLaren this week is the specification that has been homologated as the one with which Honda will start the season. Also Honda will be running at this test some new parts that are not related to homologation, so are hoping for a further step up in performance" - Andrew Benson

Alonso, whose best result last year was fifth place in Hungary, said: “I do not think we are far from achieving a podium.

“I would be surprised if we managed it at the start of the season, because in the first few races not everything will be place.”
He said his feelings for the 2016 car were “good”, adding: “When everything is in place, we will make a very big improvement.”
But he said Mercedes are still ahead of everyone else.

Asked about the Honda engine’s performance compared to that of Mercedes, the Spaniard said: “We will certainly have less power, between 30 and 80bhp, but not 200, no.”

Manuel Franco from AS, says that is not true...more new parts will be tested in coming days
