And vettel passing the cars in the pit lane, can you pass under safety car conditions regardless of the other cars speed?

kvy-vet-rai is a fist lap racing incident imo and vettel should drop it now.

Yet you base your views on engines entirely on that.
One of the red bulls did 349 in the trap today. That's obviously a big improvement from renault. Wouldn't have been possible in previous years (at this track).

Kvyat was WAY TOOO AMBITIOUS. He ran on Curbs and that made Vettel to look at that car and for his bad luck, Kimi was turning in (last pic). If someone thinks that is racing, it is actually called MALDONADOesque.

39.8 With the exception of the cases listed under a) to h) below, no driver may overtake another car on the track, including the safety car, until he passes the first safety car line for the first time when the safety car is returning to the pits. However, if the safety car is still deployed at the beginning of the last lap, or is deployed during the last lap, Article 39.15 will apply.
The exceptions are :
a) If a driver is signalled to do so from the safety car.
b) Under 39.12 or 39.16 below.
c) When entering the pits a driver may pass another car remaining on the track, including the safety car, after he has reached the first safety car line.
d) When leaving the pits a driver may overtake, or be overtaken by, another car on the track before he reaches the second safety car line.
e) When the safety car is returning to the pits it may be overtaken by cars on the track once it has reached the first safety car line.
f) Whilst in the pit entry, pit lane or pit exit a driver may overtake another car which is also in one of these three areas.

Most of it is coming from the chassis. Marko confirmed in SKY DE interview after race. They are able to run low downforce setups and still be competetive in corners. Also the car is a bomb when it comes to braking. Nontheless the Renault PU also improved, but not in peak power, but driveability. Better peak power will come in Canada or maybe earlier (also Markos words).

I think the only way to avoid the contact was for Kimi to take a wider line through the corner, otherwise the contact was kind of inevitable with 3 cars at that part of the circuit.

Kvyat got a podium when he was under immense pressure and he took any chance he had. The first lap incident started with Kimi locking. And Kvyat launching into the space on a corner which was getting tighter by the turn.

Could classify it as racing incident but if Vettel turned right instead of moving left, Kvyat would have been facing the wrong direction. Good thing they got out of that tangle with all wheels intact.

Certainly ruined Ferrari and Lewis' chances. But I loved Kimi's stint on mediums. And Ferrari got him in at the right time without him having to beg for pits.

Vettel was in beast mode, destroying anything in sight and eating them. Rosberg probably had a calm Sunday drive with no pressure at all.

Unlucky for Ricciardo with the puncture. He was my DOTW.

Moving on to Sochi. I don't think tires will be much of a talking point here since Ros pretty much did the whole race on one set last year (Softs was it?)

Well it's a case of banking on a safety car to make up the time lost from the pit lane or banking on a decent start and avoiding contact. I'd say the latter is more controlled by himself than the other option, unfortunately today a racing incident occurred.

And to his delight, he should be happy with the launch he got. :) He passed 3 cars within few meters and actually a much better start than Nico's.

If you'd told Ferrari their drivers would be 6 and 11 points behind Hamilton after 3 races, they'd probably have taken it - little would they have thought Nico would be another 35 down the road!

Still, Nico only needs to get some of the bad start/damage/engine issues in one race - and the other 3 have a normal race - and it all starts looking more interesting again.

Just a shame we got another race with the top four not running together, undamaged from the start. From today's pace you'd say Ferrari closer to Red Bull than Mercedes but I don't think we can completely discount the effect of the recovery + damage from first corner.
