if there wouldn't be this penalty, this drive-to-delta-taxi-f1 would have become a total joke
Then every of track excursion that gave an advantage should've been penalised. Which is surely not the case.
one must be VES fanboy to even begin to argue against that 5sec penalty

any driver that has any respect for other drivers out there, would have given the place in the same lap, him not doing it just shows how green he really is, great driver, but personality of a child
Danish? I'm Dutch, I love the fuzz around VES, but with running off track this time he clearly gained an advantage. Good decision from the sterward and fun to see them three fight the last few laps.

By the way, the gaining an advantage had nothing to do with who was in front before the corner, but he cut a corner after he went off track to stay ahead. It's all in the details.

Hamilton cut the chicane at Monaco when he was ahead of Ric, and wasn't asked to give back the place. Same in this race.

If the other driver isn't at least alongside, they are NOT entitled to the position whether their competitor has gained an advantage by leaving the track or not.

In modern F1 rule somewhat states that the driver infront can cut a track atlest once and get a warning about it. Doing it again after the warning is penalised by a 5sec penalty. Hamilton did the same, and was not even atacked by noone since the pack battled against each other. Vettel did a banned Verstappen manouver against Ricciardo who was not responsible for Verstappen behaviour, and the Verstappen behaviour was not an excuse for Vettel to squeeze Ricciardo and possible puncture his front tyre. Maybe FOM should DSQ Verstappen, but they should penalize Vettel and promote Ricciardo to third.

At last a sensible comment.

It also cost RedBull a 3rd place finish. Had Verstappen moved aside, Ricciardo would have caught Vettel with no issues....probably passed under DRS and sailed off into the sunset.

Verstappen is a talented driver but too immature to take advantage of his talents. He wants it all at all costs and death to anyone who tries to impede him....including his teammates. Hopefully he learns before its too late and he causes a serious accident.

My take on this: I agree with the 5s penalty. I already told my mates, he would get a penalty after the race, I was sure of it. And I am happy they changed it before the podium. I hate nothing more, than penalties given out after the podium ceremony, while affecting the top 3 result.

On the other hand, Hamilton did the same thing (leaving the track and gaining an advantage). Rosberg was a different story, though. Plus, Vettel blocked Ricciardo in the braking zone. While it has been made very clear after Japan, that this would no longer be accepted.

Jolle, I edited the nationality part out of my comment just a minute later, that was my mistake ;)

and about VET moving under braking and RIC complaining about it, I 100% understand VET, because from his point of view RB team was trying to screw him out of position by VES backing him into RIC, I bet that is the reason why he shut the door in such a manner, I would expect a discussion with stewards about it afterwards, but I wouldn't expect any penalties, because if VES would have done the right thing, 99,9999% this RIC-VET incident wouldn't even occur in the first place

anyway, great save from RIC there avoiding the collision and managing that front left (which looked really bad in the replay) to stay in 5sec of VES to get the 4. place

Must say that I agree, in any other sport what VES did would be counted as unsportsmanlike conduct and that does deserve a severe penalty, much more so then the 5 seconds he got slapped with. He has to grow up sometime.

U can critisize me, but what i see in Verstappen is somewhat Ayrton Senna. Same no remorse and no backing down attitude, even when being wrong about it. Going for the gap, no matter what the cost is. Pushing to the last limit and maybe even further.

This all should've been averted by having speed bumps on the grass run off. The FIA are DUMB.

Best radio message during race was of Alonso on lap 16 when team asked him to push his reply was epic , "what do you think i am doing since lap 1". Those Vettel messages were a little rude for the entire race especially for blue flags, last lap messages are forgiven because every drivers say such things when the adrenaline rushes through them at that point, but to me vettel dint deserve driver of the day Riccardo did in my opinion.

Will be interesting to hear all the conspiracy rumours coming out of Brazil by tomorrow, trying to explain how Ericsson could go from dead last, with a damaged floor to P11 while Nasr only managed to get P15.

Seb did a great race.
Hard fights are ok, but should kept fair. Avoiding being overtaken with shortcuts through grass is not fair.

Maybe the old man is right. Put some concrete walls in the corners.
