any chance of getting a dropbox link for the next round? I will be away in a couple of days and would like to submit early if possible.

also acquired an old server but it doesn't support virtualised 64bit machines so can't do windows and VirtualBox.
I can run a 64bit os so looks like I will have to go Linux.
anyone have any sort of guide on what is required to setup the MantiumWFlow on Linux? what other packages doi need?

I will send you the link. On Linux there are no special requirements. If something does fail it will tell you what and you can install the missing package with a simple pip install missing-package.

The cars above are cool. Soon I will open a thread about a second challenge for more futuristic cars.

Thanks for the link. will get the car finished off and send in the next day or 2.

What is the recommended distro of Linux?
I am new to Linux so I guess I just extract the MantiumWFlow_MVRC_linux.tar.gz somewhere??
seems a bit too easy!!

Well, it should work. If you have problems please head over to the support forum. Maybe you have to give yourself the permission the execute the file.
And after switching my Linux after ten years, I recommend one with a lot of Python installed. But I think MantiumWFlow should work on any Linux as I compiled it to make it run without any big problems.

I can't wait too see it... but as a spectator. Futuristic cars are more funny to see than to design for me.

When did you planned it?

Maybe I can externally support the partecipants who will decide to use FreeCAD/SWX/Creo (or any other Student Edition or OS software) instead of tools that work with faceted geometry, just like Machin did last year when he helped about basic aerodynamics concepts.

I will start a new thread soon. And I would welcome you to join the staff of that championship. Someone will have to create some CAD. And who would better?

Thank you I would be glad to help.
Chris is much better than me about CAD modeling, but I have some tools that can be useful. Just let me know the time schedule in advance because I have a lot of job to take care of (boring things, nothing to do with racecars). I will be back on the track with MVRC2017.

So have a couple of questions.
The first thing I noticed was when I put the numbers from it into virtual stopwatch it returns and engine power of 94.52% but in the official results, it says 93%.
what was my time before the penalty was applied?

With the latest report, there are fewer slices for U was this intentional or are they just missing? also, there was no drag/lift plot chart?

I am also trying to understand my missing 6-7% of engine power. my results were:

mSurf_HX_mid_lhs -4.05522[m^3/s]

engine_exhaust_rhs 5.73398[Pa*m^2]

engine_inlet_lhs -2.68888[Pa*m^2]

So the issue is the exhaust, now my exhaust is placed at the rear of the car just above the diffuser, my thoughts were this would be an ideal place as it is a low-pressure area. Could the issue be that "There are surfaces on the body STL that overlap the engine exhaust surfaces" or could it also be the same issue as the HX Mid-surface if the triangle count is low?

I just copy pasted the values from the report into the stop watch and get the reported 93% so that is correct.
Your penalty time is 1% of the 107% time of the fastest lap. Usually it is the average lap of everyone but this time that lap time was slower than the 107%.
And yes you are missing a lot of the slices, I will fix that.

I now had a good look at your car. The mesh in the area of your exhaust is a bit poor so that possibly could affect your results. But as the reported values are very stable I would not think too much about that.
Looking at the placement itself I would not bet my money on that being a low pressure zone. In the whole rear area of you car it is where I would expect the highest pressures exactly where you placed it.

The issue with your car was that the forces were not very flat, so probably some transient effects are going on with your car. To keep results comparable I cannot just run your car transient, so I let it run twice as long as usual and the forces are reasonably flat. If your own simulations showed better behavior maybe car is very close to the edge and small differences in mesh setup cause very different results. If you like you can send me your own simulation assuming you are using OF and I will have a closer look into this.
Thank you Andre, I ´m using now fvSchemes and fvSolution from mwflow nad it looks like new simulation is quite matching official results. So I hope for next race my COP will be OK.
I ´m using OF 3.0 and I have still different mesh settings so differece in results will be anyway

Hi, I am testing OnShape (online parametric CAD) for a customer project (not related to MVRC), and I was wodering if it would be a good solution (quite simple to use, parametric, possibility to share templates and ruled parts, assemblies, no installation, ...).

Their present commercial policy is, in my opinion, favorable to sponsorships or limited accounts, if the MVRC partecipants would be motivated to learn a real CAD, it would be interesting to contact them.

I have uploaded my car for the SaoPaulo Race only been able to run 1 quick simulation and not been able to make huge improvements. Mainly fixed up my penalty and a couple of other legalities.
I have dropped my front wing and it is now producing more downforce at the front but my slimmed-down rear wing has lost me some at the rear, was hoping a change to the diffuser would have gained that back but not so.
Results are COP has shifted forward and my adjustment I made for the rear wing before submitting is completely untested.
My numbers for intake, exhaust, and HX Mid all look to be acceptable so fingers crossed I get that elusive 100% engine power.

I would have loved to have a bit more time to make refinements to my car in the hope of moving up a spot in the results, really happy with the last race results though and would be glad if I finish in the same position this race.

Right, one of the guys here had an issue with WFlow and what I believe is permissions in Windows.
This is the issue I have, can anyone help?

Hi RicME,please send questions like this to the support Forum. This looks like a crash, maybe your VM does not have enough memory. If you change it and it still crashes you can send me the case and I will have a look.
