FIA raise superlicence cost

Post

Does this mean that after obtaining a superlicense, drivers also pay a yearly subscription based on how many point they got the previous season?
Long experience has taught me this about the status of mankind with regards to matters requiring thought. Yes, a Superlicense is renewed each season.

The first time you need to pay for the entrance fee (1200 euros, now 10 000) and have winning requirements.

IRC, you need either to win F3 euroseries championship, win or finish in the top 5 of GP2,Champ car or Formula Nippon.

If this is your second or more season in F1, you superlicense is then renewed but you need to pay 477 euros per point you earned in the WDC, and now this 2000 euros.

The aim of this measure has not been annonced but according to autosport it will force only the best drivers to enter F1 (those who have a lot of sponsors).

If this is the case it is a serious acceptance F1 hasn't been with the best of the best only.

But well i don't don't really think this is quite a good idea. There're some less good pilots full of money...

Well we'll see.

Doesnt this then mean that good(?) drivers are being punished? Cos the more points you have the more you pay. Also, does this not give the FIA a bigger stick to keep drivers in line, ie the threat of having the superlicense revoked for whatever reason the FIA might think up. Additional becomes more about money and less about talent in my view.

Maybe the logic is that the driver is paying for a service from the FIA from having a trade mark series enabling them to show off and increase their potential earnings in the future - the more points they get, the best paid (theoretically) they can be in the future.

The driver doesn't pay this, it's the team that does. And yes it seems that although they want the teams to spend less money, the FIA wants to take more money in! No logic in that in my opinion, only that driver wages will not be included in the budget cap and this can be counted under wages...

interesting snippet from a chat with Max Moseley
Mosley also suggested that the FIA will consider extending the use of superlicences to cover senior team personnel as well as drivers in future.
now forgive me for being half asleep, but why would "senior team personnel" need a superlicence?

Apparently not all drivers do this, some have written to FIA complaining about the raise because they have to pay for it themselves. He claims that since they all earn so much, they can benefit the safety work FIA does, with increased license costs. Funny thing, cos most of the drivers benefit alot by being members of GPDA...

From the nice little post we can see that the FIA will make €1,546,000 just from F1 superlicences for current race drivers!
