Re: 2017 F1 Pre-season testing February 27 - March 2/ March 7-10

Post

I'm becoming a bit annoyed over this obsession about fastest lap times. I understand there is some excitement given that these cars look to be able to beat the track records, but in light of comparing the top 3 contenders with each other?

Has anyone made a direct comparison of the race simulation stints? I can't find it in this topic anymore...
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

16:23 The Ferrari has stopped just before the chicane, and Raikkonen is out of the car.

The Ferrari went past our own Scott Mitchell "sounding sick", then it "conked out" and locked the rears in old penultimate corner, spinning Raikkonen around.

It seems more gearbox failure.

Assuming they haven't changed it yet that's nothing to worry about, right? The amount of mileage collected is more than the gearbox must endure in the season

If it was gearbox the engine would still be audible, I'd guess ICE.

The thing is, I'm sure McLaren would be more than happy with a few red flags if they were burning up the time sheets; the problem is, as Alonso said, they're neither faster nor reliable.

Well I find comparing laptimes between teams during winter testing to be a bit of a waste of time, given it's testing and the hammer won't be dropped until the race weekend. So I expect we'll either see Mercedes stride off into the distance as the last couple of seasons with a crest fallen Ferrari or it'll be a closer fight.

Don't think so, I'm sure somebody will once testing is done and dusted. Something to mull over until Free Practise.

Completely agree! Again, my point was only to disprove McLaren's disruption to other teams, nothing more. :)
