McLaren MCL32 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

They added a slit in the front part of the floor it seems, like others already did

Wasn't that already on the car during testing?

It's hardly visible in that pic, look at the other one, there's a slit about 5 cm from the floors edge, parallel to it for as long as the floor is visible.

I thought holes in the floor are not permitted but I'm not seeing a slit to the edge? Or is the metal part some trick?

Technically a "hole" should allow light to pass straight through. This doesn't, looks more like a channel open to the side.

That's not a correct. Holes are defined in a different way, the word 'intersection' is used. That's why the holes in front of the rear tire are not realy holes, just the floor edge making some weird turns.

To my knowledge this was not the case in previous years. This is the rule for this year:

3.7.9.b
In an area lying 700mm or less from the car centre line, and from 450mm forward of the
rear face of the cockpit entry template to 350mm forward of the rear wheel centre line,
any intersection of any bodywork visible from beneath the car with a lateral or
longitudinal vertical plane should form one continuous line which is visible from
beneath the car.
And since the floor edge is 800mm from the centerline they can play with the last 10cm it seems. Strange no one else does this. It seems to enable some nifty sealing mechanisms.
