Spat tea out ....
Although no real options.

No better seat for next year in F1

A full season of indy car most likely doesn't interest Alonso that much

Teams are pulling out of Lmp1 so thats not the most thrilling at the moment.

Formula e is not big enough and cars are too slow.

so the fact that I can't get details anywhere, screams it's for a one year deal. Is it?

He was negotiating a deal with ART but apparently Lance Stroll is a major sharehold and vetoed the deal, can someone enlighten us why would he do that?
I've never heard about this, do you have any source for that?

I know he bought the F3 outfit for his son, but I've never heard anything that would link him to ART.

I mixed up, it's actually Prema and it was Lawrance Stroll.. my bad!
Motorsport.com reported in August that Norris and Prema were closing in on an agreement, but it has emerged that this has been vetoed by Lawrence Stroll, who is father to Williams Formula 1 racer Lance and holds a substantial share in the Italian team.

It's only a guess but I think that the announcement was delayed probably because Mclaren wanted a multi year deal and Alonso wants to see whats going to happen next year first.

It's one year, probably with a pay cut because of that.

I read it first on grandprix247.com (yeah, I know) and they reported 1 year deal, i guess they were speculating.
Good to hear! :)

There is literally zero sense signing a multi-year deal contract this year without options or exit clauses. Next year the majority of the grid will be out of contract. There will be free seats in Mercedes and Ferrari.

You can bet your ass Alonso's "long term" contract is a one year contract with options to extend or to leave after the year is up.

No one has even implied a multi-year deal without options. I think it's pretty much understood that it is a long term contract with exit clauses and/or options at the end of every year.

And he will receive 40 millions/year. I guess there is no need to wish him the best.

It was the logic conclusion, I do hope McLaren-Renault will be competitive next year.

The 2018 engine is worth a second over what they have now, the chassis improvement for next year could be worth another second and change best case scenario. or about .7 worst case scenario. Let's say McLaren can improve next year by 2.3 seconds, 2.5 if we're very optimistic and unrealistic. That would put them slightly ahead of the competition this year, in other words the deficit would be whatever the top 3 can pull out for next year. If Mercedes gains 1.2 seconds, then that will be the gap, if they can close it through development remains to be seen. Considering they're on their own financially for the foreseeable future, makes it seem tricky for them to consistently match the others.
