Either way, if he has a good start, that's a lot of the work done already. He'll only struggle to pass Williams or Force Indias as he moves forward, which practically guarantees him a top 6 position. Throw in a safety car and anything is possible.

This should make for an entertaining race. Given Bottas has struggled recently with the tyres, he could bunch up the top 3/4/5 before the first pitstop.

As Hamilton was set to start from the back of the field anyway, Mercedes has opted to fit parts “of a different specification to those used in qualifying”.

Mercedes says it will also fit a new engine, with Hamilton moving onto his fifth internal combustion engine, MGU-H and turbocharger.

Yep that makes sense. I do wonder if a new F1 car still has that new car smell?

I’m actually very excited about this race and think it will be fun to watch. From a Hamilton side of things I mean.

He does not have to care about crashing so can take risks. The car has a new engine, so he can run that to the max.

And the start line lottery is romoved as he’s in the pit lane.

I honestly think it will be epic to watch and see what not only he, but the car when fully unleashed can achieve.

I predict a podium. Well.... I hope it’s hat impressive anyway.

The only way I see Lewis coming close to top 4, in a normal circumstance, would be by trimming as much wing as possible and make it a rocket ship on straights. Otherwise, he would get stuck behind. I remember one driver having done that in 2006 Brazil GP. What a drive it was.

Schumacher finished 4th from around 8th in 2006 IIRC. Are you sure you mean 2006 or have I missed your point. Sorry if I have.

If so and due the the tight/slow corners at the start, is it possible to make places up?

I think you can't set off until the field is clear.

You have to wait for the pit lane lights to go green i think. You have no chance of making places up. You normally filter out a good 5 seconds off the back of the field. But with the field all fighting he will be on the back of the pack after a lap.

That driver no matter how good you think he is in that car is going to very quickly be all over the likes of the Saubers and the STRs.
In fact if we look to recent races. When the cars are 100% the likes of RedBull and Ferrari have sliced through the filed in no time. I imagine the Mercedes with its engine turned up to 11 will do the same.

The problem is that the delta isn't big enough. IMHO.
