Alfa Romeo returns to F1 in 2018

Mclaren don't do their own engines they could have been the junior team of merc but they prefered to be backmarkers.

remember a few years ago when the idea of big teams having 2nd teams... didn't everyone hate the idea. now we are here and it seems a good idea.

the grid is basically a big and small team grid these days.

Mercedes palms off drivers to customer teams and takes the best back when a seat is free. while offering discounted engines basically keeping customer teams stuck in a loop of agreeing with them to save millions
Ferrari now have alfa which is basically a 2nd team just without being called Ferrari B
red bull have had Toro Rosso for years and are even going as far as to use them as a test for honda for the season after next as a stop gap for 2021 and the new engine regs
just leaves Renault out really perhaps one day haas, williams or force india will switch engines and fall the way of Sauber

Mclaren need a Jr team too. Maybe they'll end up pairing with Haas or renewing their previous involvement with Force India...

Williams is their junior team.

They nearly had sauber until they tore up the honda engine deal. If this had happened in suspect McLaren might have stayed with honda.

Yes they came in an where basically a Ferrari customer in almost everything but since that time they have almost distanced themselves from Ferrari. Almost as if they came with the idea that Ferrari are a good place to start let's buy that then build from it they seem to be happy to have two less than pg drivers and even turned down Ferrari drivers (gut) Haas only care about performance for the buck they spend

No, the Viper was dropped because it didn't sell very well, and because of new safety legislation in the U.S. that oblige every car to have side curtains air bags.

Alfa has more sales potential. It is all about money. Market the product that has more potential. Maseratti offerings are a weak connection to F1. It be a big waste.

Who says this is going to be Ferrari's junior team? One suspects Fiat are not putting Alfa's name into Formula 1 for the goodness of their health............
