nice rumour, if that makes u happy.
What part do you think is a rumour?
The part where you can’t can’t provide any quotes, links, proof or evidence for probably
I just thought it was common knowledge about both tbh.
Here's an example of how car development is funded, its no different for any team..
The bulk of development work on F1 cars is done in the year before they are launched so Mercedes’ performance last year was fuelled by its 2011 spending.

Here's the AMuS story about the McLaren bosses footing the bill for 1 year only while Zak finds sponsors...
It will be expensive for that. McLaren has to pay Renault the engines, the salary of the driver now carry themselves, and there is no development subsidy from Japan anymore. Since the despair must have been very large. Shareholders Mansour Ojjeh and Bahrain Mumtalakat will pay the additional costs for one year. So much time has Zak Brown and Eric Boullier, with good results on the racetrack again attract sponsors.

So yeah 1 fact and 1 rumour I suppose but Zak spoke about the shareholders here and AMuS had everything else spot on so..
"We can't afford not to be on the podium," Brown said.
"It's a big decision that has lots of elements to it, and economics are one.
"Fortunately we have extremely committed shareholders that we can make a sporting decision and deal with the economics.
"We're not financially challenged. We can navigate any financial situation."

So we have..
2017-Honda/McLaren fund MCL 33
2018-Ojjeh/Mumtalakat/McLaren fund MCL 34
2019-???/McLaren fund MCL 35
MCL 35 is the 2020 race car. Obviously in season development comes out the same budget so if there is still a hole in 2019 the MCL 34 will suffer late in the season so any hole in the budget will not be felt on track until the second half of 2019 at the earliest if Zak can't find sponsors in 2018 and the Bahraini's refuse to keep bailing them out for 2019.
