The fixation point for the slot is mega small.

Can someone clarify for me, I'm confused by something in Ferrari's sidepod arrangement. I can see the main sidepod opening near the car, and the one they have on the top as well, but I'm confused by the outer opening, on the outside of the car - is this a hole that feeds air to cool something or is it literally a slot that lets air in and straight out the back just to better control the airflow in that area? It looks like a hole because of the black finish.

If anyone has a better picture of it, and where it feeds to, e.g. if there is an exit point for the air flow if it isn't for cooling, then this would be appreciated.

There's no hole there, just 2 small deflectors.

Why is it unpainted? Ferrari being coy is my best guess.

Thanks - so does air just go into it at the front and then exit straight out the back, is it just a slot? Any pictures of it from a backward angle to see it from behind?

It's just the flow conditioners.

The whole setup at the front of the sidepods is Ferrari's clever way around the regulations of how the sidepods have to be shaped. The actual sidepod sits further back than most cars, and the opening is 2 joined turning vanes, the lower one of which encases the upper SIPS bar.

Is that what you are looking for? Air just goes around the sidepod helped by the small deflectors, no inlets or slots in that area.

Ahh yes, this is much clearer now - from the other pictures I couldn't tell exactly where the outside of the sidepod was, but it's much clearer now that this just serves as a deflector for air to pass through round the sidepod - wow; shows how tight their sidepods are!

Watching this video it appears that Ferrari put some kind of plastic material on top surface of HALO where SF logo is for smoothing the surface (I guess). Notice in video (9 seconds into) when they're putting sticker on its flexing

How quickly will those sidepods fill with water when its raining?? :D With that top intake.
Wonder if they have a drain point somewhere ...

What if mirror are for both drag reduction and to direct more airflow for the radiator?

Maybe in high speed it will manage the mirror wake and maybe even direct air to the back of the car, and at low speed direct the air to the opening. That would be very advantageous cause you could have more refrigeration in the low speed sections (which generally have lower cooling) and have less drag in the high speed zones to avoid having as much airflow in the drag heavy radiators.

Is this even possible?
it would have to flex, so no it is not possible

as for the sidepods i suspect that ferrari is being able to have them so tight by placing the components higher than its rivals, i guess their goal is to have aerodynamic efficiency at the cost of weight higher on the car, an extra weight that will have to be handled by their suspension configuration and tyres.

Expect ferrari to use softer tyres than their rivals.
Nothing to do with flexing, just that the wake will be proportional to the speed so maybe at low speeds it is aimed at the opening which improves low speed cooling, which maybe helps reduce the overall cooling needs. Then at high speeds the wake is longer and hits the back of the engine cover mitigating sidepod drag at high speeds which is where you really want to have low drag and cooling is very efficient.

As for the angle being to steep to make air "turn" I am not convinced it is completely impossible.

This case looks like quite a dramatic change of direction:

At 200mph with all the heat generated in there? I don't think they'll have much of an issue with rain ;)
