Grunge: from the 90´s seattle to WRC

Post

This article is hilarious!

http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns20321.html

First this couple of idiot Mosley´s friends:
Thatti wrote that "I watched the WRC Mexico highlights last night and I have to voice my opinion on the poor appearance of Sebastian Loeb on WRC - TV. He was unshaven, scruffy looking and with unkempt hair!
Chandler responded by saying that "unfortunately it is not a problem that is unique to our sport as the same happens in football and other 'male' sports. Of course these persons are an insult to real males, but then Loeb had the arrogance to arrive 90 minutes late to the FIA awards dinner. My only solution is that we suggest to ISC that the camera does not cover them close up. It gives them the exposure they are entitled to as winners but no close up and shortened time slot focus on those who present our sport well."
So, if you have a "clean neat" look, doesn´t mind if you are Ghandi or a Nazi, we like you. #-o

Then ISC's Simon Long and Neil Duncanson, the boss of North One Television, owner of ISC, replied:
"It is not for me to comment on drivers arriving late for FIA dinners but I do feel that it is precisely Sebastian’s 'ruggedly good-looking' appearance which has helped endear him to so many new and young fans both in France and around the world," Long responded. "I feel it would be a real mistake given what we are trying to do in terms of refreshing and re-positioning the WRC brand, if we were to instruct Sebastian - or any other WRC driver - to always appear with a photo fit, clean shaven, pristine look. WRC is rugged and real, it isn’t immaculate. That’s a big part of the sport’s appeal which Sebastian is such an important element in defining."
To what this Chandler replied:
"your organization is the one responsible for coverage and media growth of the WRC . If your experience say that his demeanor and appearance is what sells then so be it".
So I must correct my theory!
From "If you have a clean neat look, doesn´t mind if you are Ghandi or a Nazi, we like you"
To "If you have a clean neat look, doesn´t mind if you are Ghandi or a Nazi, we like you, but if you have a unshaven, scruffy looking and with unkempt hair, we will like you only if you make us earn lots of money"

Well, at least God save us from having to stand at his side for a while...

... and, oh, heavens, have mercy of his copilot: I hope the cabin has good ventilation.

About the picture, it's great, thanks, Belatti. A question: does the lettering on the cap says "Play Station" or "Play Stain"? :D Perhaps he shouldn't use a Citröen, but Citron. A lot of citron.

No, no, I don't support FIA position, but, yuck... I haven't seen such a terrible picture since my last birthday (I'm not exactly photogenic).

Those comments are incredable

Perhaps Seb needs to sign with with McMerc. Ron seems to know how to turn these:

Wow
I didn´t know Ron was like Daniel Passarella

NdA: Argentina technical director from 1998 French FIFA World Cup, who has the military tendence not to let long haired football players to play in the team. He was the reason why Batistuta had such a big haircut.

PD: Ciro, great post

Is this really the

sort of stuff that keeps our top "selfless FIA volunteers" occupied? If so, it is fairly easy to direct the honourable gentlemen expressing such concern to a direction that will satisfy their whim more immediately than their current pursuit can.

Btw, I remember commenting the Iranian theocracy's attempts to curtail what was billed as a "western hairstyle". Little did I know that Sebastian Loeb's appearance in media would have me revisit those thoughts, because this leaves me in a sort of a lesser moral bind. Originally, I declared that to show solidarity with Tehran's metrosexual youth I'd use a variety of hair gels and such. Now I'm obviously tempted to go "unshaven, scruffy looking and unkempt" (which, thankfully, happens a wee bit more naturally than fashioning a cationic polymer compound-hair composite). Doing both, however, will leave me with a look that will convey neither obscure idea sufficiently well, I'm afraid.

People are affected by many silly ideas. It's not really our personal fault because we're naturally forced to contend with way more of those than we can consciously process. This, IMHO, doesn't mean we couldn't herd those ideas by a certain informed approximation, thus keeping our private and social pastures a little greener, accepting and varied for everyone involved.

Its not just the podium celebrations, the whole sport needs a good clean up!

On a related note, myself and a bunch of scruffy, dog eared students are departing for Barbados in just 2 hours to have a play in the mud ourselves!

For some reason I had missed this topic. I just had a nice laugh reading it  .

So much morronic comments over apparences, this Thatti guy obviously has no clue of what WRC is about. It's not a fashion festival lol, who cares the driver isn't well shaved when you see a furious WRC car slashing through the mud...
Though I admit Loeb looks terrible on that pic, must have been shot in a bad day. :)

Good responses from everyone, and good luck to you Tom!
