Renault Sport F1 R.S. 18

They are also running small fences on the side of the tub like Williams:

Is it just me or do the sidepod inlets on the Renault look way larger than what the Merc, Ferrari and Red Bull are running? Or is it just an illusion?

Looks very similar to last year’s Ferrari.

RS18 Exhaust-Blown Rear Wing

Source: https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/for ... 69265.html
Renault has found a whole new trick to generate more downforce. The engineers assemble the exhaust as high as the regulations allow (550 mm above the reference plane). For this purpose, the tailpipe is bent upwards as much as is allowed (5 degrees).

The exhaust gases aim so from below on the main blade of the rear wing. It is specially coated on the underside so that the carbon structure in the heat jet does not start to melt.

The new trick is to bring up to two points downforce while accelerating. And the idea is not easy to copy.

They add
Cooling layout of Renault
Renault has changed the complete cooling layout of the car. An oil cooler, which was normally housed in the side box, is now placed over the engine. The fresh air for this is sucked in via the airbox.
They say the "oil cooler" is just behind the driver basically... but which oil rad? the engine one like Toro Rosso? or the ERS/the gearbox etc...

RS18 Exhaust-Blown Rear Wing
Nice one from Renault. 2 points df for free! I think lot's of teams will copy that asap if their rear suspension layout allows it. Renault should have painted the underside of the wing in black, so it would have been much harder to spot.

I think that new carbon gear box give Renault possibility for new rear suspension configuration and that new exhaust.

Blown exhaust it is then. Good job for them. I suppose if it proves to be 2 points worth of downforce (2 points? How much is that? How much laptime are we talking about?) then everybody will follow soon. Probably Red Bull will jump immediately and McLaren as well, since they use the same engine. Just like in 2011 when McLaren turned to Australia with revamped exhaust after they missed it in winter.

How much do you think it will be hard to copy this design? And how much do you think its due to the Engine design?

what about the off throttle events? wouldnt there be a fluctuation of exhaust gases? Unless they found another clever engine mapping that could negate that...

Hy guys, it's OT but short.

What is 1 point of DF?
1 out of 100, so variable on every car?

Or is 1 point a clear definition?

I found nothing in search.
