I noticed this as well, was trying to work out what the advantage of it is - especially as it is directly ahead of the screen. I think it's that they haven't recessed the front mount of the halo, so there's a 1/4" plate stuck on top of the chassis like the F2 cars:

Where teams like mercedes added a drop in the chassis to hide the front mount:

i dont have any clear pictures of vjm11 Sduct ...... but I think Sauber is trying to feed the Sduct with induction flow, considering the Sduct mouth is wider than the nose holes exit, so they gain a massive amount of airflow with higher velocity
