Hamilton 19.3 on mediums .....
what was the stint length!
no point asking unless you know how much fuel he had on board and what engine mode etc, might have been a light tank run with engine turned down or could have been full tank on qualifying power or anything in between on either of those ranges, just because he pitted doesn't tell us anything
Sure it does, it tells us when he pitted.

From Sky Sports F1

And why have McLaren been using the hypersofts?
Eric Boullier explains:

"Just because tyre models said if it’s too cold these are the only tyres you can work with.

"It turned out that everybody tried soft or ultrasofts or hypersofts and the one that also worked very well was the medium tyre."

Just as Lewis Hamilton has expertly shown...

Not that surprising. He was on Hypers, so all the time was gained on the turns.
mclaren doing glory runs a la sauber in an effort to attract new sponsers?
No - all teams will be able to go at least 2, maybe 3 seconds faster than they currently are at present. If he was trying to 'do a glory run to attract sponsors' he would be doing it a lot quicker than that

but seriously, do you really think a sponsors going to say... wow, you went fastest on day 4 of testing... here's £50,000,000
Yeah I don't think it would work for McLaren, they are already too big, but if you have a small privateer team with low ambitions and you seem very fast during testing some brand might think: "oooh those guys are fast and their car space is cheap maybe I'll get a lot of bang for buck advertising there". I mean imagine securing a deal with Brawn in 2009 testing, I bet they had a pretty cheap space for all the exposition they got.

159 laps, did it on the last lap.
He did 159 laps in one stint, man that Mercedes must have a big tank, Hamilton will be knackered :P Anyway, I think it was on his 6th lap of the current stint...

Anyone heard if TR is on a race sim? They have been pounding the laps out and have been in and out of the pits quick.

Guess we'll see, they just came back in. Will they go right back out?

Edit: Guess not lol. Red flag for the Sauber

but then the Sauber returns to the pits with no signs of damage. Weird

Considering that their car is virtually devoid of any major sponsors I would think they would do anything to get more headlines in hopes of boosting their confidence to the shareholders and potential sponsors. yesterday they grabbed headlines and today if SV can finish high they will grab headlines again. Im pretty sure that sponsors arent that adept to the fine technical intricacies of testing so anything that is positive from mclaren is already a win.

Could be they just let it run out of fuel on purpose. That way they can actually get a precise idea how far x amount of fuel goes.

That's an idea. Don't know if the Sauber was running when it came in.

I see GAS is right back out so I do wonder if TR are in a race sim.

Oh trust me, any serious company will do extensive research first before making a decision about sponsoring a team. They will know. However, for a sponsor the valuable thing is that the team grabs the headlines, getting a nice picture in the article with the sponsor logo clearly visible. So that target does not have to be achieved only through being competitive (although it's still the primary way to do so).

Seems odd...but it's the first time in the V6 turbo era that no one is having engine problems in the first test! Everyone seems to be able to complete over 100 laps without any engine problems...even Honda! That's really nice for the competitiveness of the sport!! Let's see how close they are by Melbourne...

I just don't see McLaren doing it. They get a ton of press and Brown has said he doesn't want/need a major sponsor because he doesn't want to change the team name. They really don't need to do it to get their name or their car in the media.

The livery alone has been getting them tons of media coverage.

That' what happens when the rules/designs fully mature. It's also why I think its dumb that people constantly want to change the rules in the name of competitiveness.

Agreed, McLaren have never been out of the head lines - not always for the right reason, but the spotlights & cameras are always all over them. What Brown said is that sponsors were not interested in a car running at the back of the grid, at least not the ones with big bucks to spend.

It's good for Honda that Toro Rosso is able to do that mileage. First because it proves their PU is now reliable, and second because it gives them valuable data, considering that they supply just one team.
(Please don't turn this into a McLaren vs Honda argument)
