McLaren MCL33

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That is a good picture (plus for you) to me these kind of updates are much better then shouting, proof indeed that it is the same part (except with the 3 holes added).

(Cheers), Yeah they've definitely added extra cooling on it so it looks like a stop gap measure to finish the tests so hopefully it works.

I think something will be tweaked around there for Melbourne.

With a careful conclusion that the problem is/was a bit bigger then a "two dollar" bolt that broke.

Not really, it could still just be a 2 dollar clamp that got a little too hot and broke. Everyone is going nuts about it but it caused them no issues running the car once they fixed it.
I would imagine they will just run new covers with thicker ceramic insulation sprayed on there. Most internal heat-shielding isn't finalised until after the first tests - that's normal for every team.

Presumably to try to seal the sides of the floor but in doing so sacrificing airflow over the top of the diffuser at the back. I'm sure it must be a net benefit though, otherwise they wouldn't've done it. It could be it allows them to run more rake?

Air sucked under the floor and driven towards the diffuser (bottom side) ?

That's completely wrong. You don't want air to be fed under the floor, certainly not from that area. The slots and vortex generators in those positions are there to seal the floor, to form kind of a barrier so that no extra air flows under the floor in an uncontrollable way, they help to make the downforce more uniform and keep dirty air away -> https://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2017/12/ ... the-slots/
