There's a good reason why this sounds generic: the composer specialises in it.

Some highlights from his CV.
  • Constantine
  • The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
  • Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem
  • Rambo [2008]
  • The Expendables
  • Battle: Los Angeles
  • Fast Five
  • The Expendables 2
  • The Expendables 3
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Furious 7
  • XXX: Return of Xander Cage
  • Power Rangers
  • The Fate of the Furious
  • The Mummy
Also:
  • Iron Man 3
  • Thor: The Dark World
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron
I personally think this is simply another example of Liberty not knowing what they're doing, but feeling they need to change things (that aren't broken). They don't have a finger on the pulse of this sport.

Thats a list of cheesy action/fantasy/super hero films, and I personally don't want F1 to be like that. I want it to be real, electrifying and serious. Still, I have a mute button, so can alway be 1 step ahead of Liberty.
The previous theme did eventually grow on me though, but the old 90's theme as Sevach posted on page 2 was far far superior to anything since.

Here is the most recent theme,

The major difference between this new one and the 90s and current ones are the lengths. The old ones are short and just serve to bring in the official logo and then out to the coverage. The new one is 3 minutes long. I'm sure it will get knocked down to a few seconds and then it will probably be a lot more bearable and soon forgotten.

I still think it is better than that "just drive" rubbish sky's coverage uses for their intro.

But thats only an intro on the program. That wasn't shoved in your face 5mins before the start of every session. Plus the program intro's have a load of decent video footage to go with them to help you into it a little more so they get away with it.

The official music being changed is the music played on the TV broadcast 5mins before lights out for each session and never includes and video footage, just a logo and some computer animation.

The Just Drive intro on sky here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txsSYNInVcA is ok with the classic video and the song itself is about driving so it works. The new theme has to have car noises added to it so you know its related to something with an engine!

I get the feeling people's ages are showing in this thread. If you don't like the new one it's probably because it's not aimed at you, it's aimed at your children or grandchildren.

In Canada we don't get theme music on our broadcasts, just a 15 second jingle before cutting to the dummy grid, couldn't care less about what they want to play. Remarkable how much people on this forum complain.

....
I know what it's for. That's why I was chatting about the difference being length (between the full video in the OP vs. the current and 90s jingle). Hopefully (very likely) the new one will not actually be a full 3 odd minutes of just logo.

I just hate Sky's choice for their introductory music and took the opportunity to stay on topic while mentioning that. Ultimately it doesn't matter what music is used for whatever purpose. F1 has bigger problems than its official jingle.

I can't vouch for anyone else, but I think your argument is extremely reductive. You don't need to cite nostalgia to motivate that this is mediocre.
  • It's 3 minutes long. A more brief, more catchy 'hook' would have been more appropriate. There's nothing catchy about this, no hook whatsoever.
  • It is generic. This has been listed multiple times already, but other than being new, which will wear off fast, is this memorable? No.
  • How does it reflect or reference the product? If I heard this without context, would I think F1?
  • The production quality is not very good. It sounds like something you could produce in Ableton Live in a couple of weeks.
I actually think this is an example of Liberty Media showing their age. They have no clue about the product, they're paying too much attention to their market research, and have no intuitive ability to query their own decision-making processes.

How was this guy hired? By committee? By recommendation? Did they tender for a new theme? Probably not.

I'd be willing to bet they simply went to the guy who had a couple of car-related movies on his CV, gave him carte blanche, and readily accepted whatever he produced.

It's not about nostalgia, people of different generations just have different tastes in music.

And you say I'm reductive, yet you are the one that has fallen back into what is quickly becoming the "we don't like Liberty" party line, of their incompetent or don't know what they are doing....

Maybe so, just out of interest, how old are we all ? I happily show my name, age and location on my profile so it gives people a better chance of understanding my views and opinions. But not many people seem to add this info to their profiles. So its hard to tell why they would or wouldn't like something.

I still consider myself fairly young for a die hard F1 fan, I'd guess at the average age of the regulars on this site at 35-45 ?

How can it be the "highway to the danger zone" ??

Halo is here, we will live forever

Sorry couldn't resist.

I think in reality, it is aimed at younger new fans, and that obviously what Liberty are looking for, if that is the case, it doesn't mean the older/longer viewers should have to like it. So I don't see why some people say we should just accept it and stop moaning. blah blah blah,That would mean we are being told to take whatever we are given and like it.

My Grand parents went to war to make sure future generations (me) had the chance to vote and have an opinion, and if this is how I'm going to use my opinion, then damn right I'm going to use it  !
