I'm sure Toto has already said this year that the W09 is more competitive relative to Ferrari in warmer temperatures, although the data is somewhat limited in that regard.Vasconia wrote: ↑11 May 2018, 14:14This sounds strange, because Mercedes has been always good with colder temperatures, not the opposite. And Ferrari has always liked high temperatures.
Its more that Mercedes loves this track, but I doubt the difference will be that big, though I expect to see Mercedes ahead in this race.
Williams looks awful, at least Kubika shows again he is faster than this teammates.
I think we saw the same last year, didn't we? Mercedes struggling to get temp into their tyres at the cool races? Might be wrong. Ferrari seem to be better then at the very, very hot tracks. No malaysia this year in the first races to gives us that really hot GP in between the cooler races in China, Baku.Vasconia wrote: ↑11 May 2018, 14:14This sounds strange, because Mercedes has been always good with colder temperatures, not the opposite. I was always felt that once we get back to the higher temps of the european season they'd suddenly come alive. It's really not great that the other teams haven't been able to capitalise on Mercs early form. Hamilton's leading the championship despite having a terrible time of it. If these warmer temps mean the car is hooked up for the rest of the season, we could lose the great competition we looked like having.

Well yes, very little data to confirm this, though Bahrain was hot and I didnt see anything to confirm his theory.SparkyAMG wrote: ↑11 May 2018, 14:48I'm sure Toto has already said this year that the W09 is more competitive relative to Ferrari in warmer temperatures, although the data is somewhat limited in that regard.Vasconia wrote: ↑11 May 2018, 14:14This sounds strange, because Mercedes has been always good with colder temperatures, not the opposite. Didn't Ferrari win in Bahrain by less than 0.7 seconds? That seems pretty competitive, no? It's possible Vettel was controlling the race perfectly but I'm not sure I'd have let Bottas into DRS range or close enough that he might risk a lunge up the inside on the last lap if I had pace in hand.
For sure. However I don't see them taking the pole.
It looks like everyone is having troubles with the wind and the super-softs. Not to mention Ferrari looking 3rd fastest at this point in P2.
I think the gap between Merc and Ferrari is pretty tight in general and they've shown an excellent ability to dial their car in when most needed. I'd be very surprised if Ferrari aren't close to Pole tomorrow.
