What a rubbish start of the race. Gasly made a terrible start and partly to blame.
How was he partly to blame???
He had a terrible start off the line if you noticed. The crash wasn't his fault but he shouldn't have been that further back.
True, but sometimes you make a good start and crap can still happen, like Fernando, Kimi in Singapore last year. It's a shame.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Did Hartley just stop before finishing the race? :o Any idea if he encountered any issues with his car?

too bad Gasly forced to retire on turn 3. I think he could have grabbed last point. Based on Q the team was quite OK considering they haven't brought any updates for this race. They missed out by 2 tenths.

Unfortunately, Brendon seems not to have F1 material and better to be replaced sooner than later.

VSC gap is easy to explain. Everyone is going slower so it takes longer for cars to theoretically catch up to each other if the one in front suddenly stops
The gap opens up a little as they go slower and drive to a targeted time but it feels like he massively slowed down once the yellows were first out increasing the gap so he had to drive to a much lower time target. The same cars fighting with Ericsson were only few seconds throughout the VSC and they all were driving to same rate. This is not the first time he has done this, almost every safety car restart he gets caught napping. I think Sirotkin also got him in the safety car restart at the beginning. Just not enough racecraft in him i think, i have no hope of him succeeding

Still no official confirmation on what happened to Hartley. In the last few laps he seemed to be lapping quite respectably - quicker than the 2 - 3 in front. Is it possible that he did indeed run out of fuel?

One good thing in the McLaren years were that whenever Honda tried to save fuel and turn down the engine Alonso would start moaning on the radio. thats how we would know the deficiency in the efficiency of the engine but these TR drivers wont say anything about the Power units during the race. I miss that.

They probably shouldn’t say anything. Both are so green and imagine Hartley blame the PU for his pace while Gasley out paces him consistently? Until the drivers are experienced enough, probably best to keep their mouth shut.

Yes, someone at the track said it started spluttering and ran dry, they didn't/couldn't save enough fuel even with the safety cars/vsc's, too thirsty.

Yes I did read Marti's comment. Not saying it's not thirsty but just curious how it happened. Miscalculation of fuel required? Hartley pushed harder than he should have? One also has to keep in mind the SC, VSC and finishing +1 lap.

Sainz was having problems with fuel too. I think Hartley was pushing for the last 15 laps hard to overtake Ericsson, and they didn't calculated the amount of fuel left... He was lapping on Alonso times every lap since lap 50+-... Anyway, they didn't have anything to loose...
