Scuderia Ferrari SF71H

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Sadly all halo mounted mirror stalks must now join the mirror on either its in-board surface or the bottom surface, and multiple stalks aren't permitted unless the structural requirement of said stalks are demonstrated.

The requirement to mount on the inboard part of the mirror voids this design.

Wait...I see what you did there. Lol.

what would really void that design or anything like them would be this.
"Whilst the FIA accepts that teams will legitimately design the mirrors, housings and mountings to minimise any negative aerodynamic effects they may cause, we believe that any aerodynamic benefits should be incidental, or at least minimal,"

Thankfully the teams don't get to decide what's minimal, the FIA does.

I really think they should just outright ban mirror mounts on the halo. There's already a rule that prohibits any aerodynamic device a few centimeters around the halo. Having mirrors mounted there just creates loopholes like this.

That said, I doubt the photo with the mirror mounted on the winglet like that would have the desired effect they want. I think they want that open wingtip for vortex generation or they'd have gone with (or similar to) the solution pictured by PhillipM from the get go.

One clear option, and its a path I do not like going down, is a 'standard FIA supplied mirror and mount for HALO use' Such as the camera.

Not a fan of 'you must use this' but if it clears up problems then, consider it.

Note the three slots in the top sidepod leading edge.

There was some talk at the beginning of the year (from Vanja, no less :D ) that this sidepod area had been designed in such a way that different bodywork could be easily fitted at the sidepod opening to suit the needs of the track.

Given the max downforce/lower drag penalty nature of Monaco, I wonder if we’ll see something of this nature here - e.g. some very bulky, downforce-producing, mid-wing-type elements? Perhaps more similar to last year’s solution?

Interested to see what emerges but good to get this closeup for reference of how it might all fit together.

Still using the updated rear upper wishbone which was suspected to cause the tyre wear issues in Spain.

Well there was a two day test after spain so they must have determined that the new suspension could not have been the cause since it is on the car again.

Or that it’s not a problem in Monaco (maybe has better warmup).

Also very possible. I think I read somewhere that Pirelli say the Hypersoft is good for something like 77 laps around Monaco so tyre wear will be much less of an issue here. We will have to see in Canada then...
