I don’t think it is really about a delta. There is only one overtake possibility and that is on the brakes mainly.
He was also trying to induce other teams to pit aswell...by saying the tyres won't last etc, he hoped others would pit before him.nevill3 wrote: ↑27 May 2018, 19:33Hamilton was badgering his engineer to instigate another pitstop by constantly complaining about his second set of tyres and he got his wish I think when at one point he was told to go "strat 6". On reflection he decided to play the long game and thanked his team for listening but would stay out to see what developed later.
Great point, if Lewis hadn't pitted so early then all the front runners wouldn't have pitted, then eventually everyone would have overtaken Dany ing he pitstops...so the early pit stop by Lewis saved Danys raceFulcrum wrote: ↑27 May 2018, 18:55I'm also 'slightly' surprised Ferrari didn't consider leaving Raikkonen out, track position being what it is around here. I mean, considering they've done this at other tracks where he's been literally defenceless, why not here? The irony is, he might have ended up winning, what with Ricciardo's issue; and if not, helped to kill Ricciardo's tyres to aid Vettel.
For me it is more it is more of a demonstration race. It belongs on the calender just because of its historic value.Phil wrote: ↑27 May 2018, 21:27Another thing to consider: if Ricciardo hadnt had his engine problem, he likely wouldnt have bunched up the pack that much, and then we may have seen more 2-stops as those behind pitted into clean air and gaps and that again cascading to the front with everyone reacting.
If it had been different, i think Hamiltons fresh set of hypers could have been put to good use.
Anyway, snooze fest or not, i love Monaco. We have 20/21 races on the calendar, not every race needs to have a million overtakes for me. I appreciate Monaco for the emphasis it puts on QF, for the strategic element of not being able to overtake and also for the unpredictability it brings. F1 is and should remain a mix of very different tracks and challenges across the season.
I agree about roundabout. Although it lengthen the straight by only 50m, it would add few seconds to the laptime.Edax wrote: ↑27 May 2018, 21:53
But I do think the cars are outgrowing the circuit. I would not mind if they would adapt the circuit a bit. At the tunnel entry there is a roundabout which they could use to lengthen the tunnel section. Also along the waterfront there is some spare room which they could use to make la piscine a real overtaking opportunity.
You ‘blame’ Mercedes but not Ferrari? How unbiased.foxmulder_ms wrote: ↑27 May 2018, 20:55What a bore fest. and I blame Merc. They should have tried to pit one of the guys to hyper when 25 laps left in front of Ocon. They should have at least tried.
Also I dont believe Ric's "failure" was *that* bad.
