Red Bull's will be more like in this area:
Mercedes's design is different because their overall aero design is different. As has been said soooooo many times before, you can't just directly copy/compare two items on cars that are not otherwise identical. You certainly can't say that Mercedes's design is better / worse than Ferrari's / Red Bull's just from a few photographs. The only car you can compare the Ferrari to is the other Ferrari. Likewise Red Bull, likewise Mercedes.F1Krof wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 23:59I have a feeling this new sidepod revamp will not work as good as the Ferrari's and Red Bull's. Theirs work better because they have at the maximum height. Mercedes' sidepod's are much lower and won't be as efficient at doing both cooling and aero performance.
What do you think?
I don't think so. The side impact protection position in RB14/SF71H is lower than the W09's one, as explained in the picture below

It is not a contradiction, this side pod areas can have any number of such devices, where the body work rule doesn't apply...that is why u have so many aero devices concentrated on this area. So this is legal, while ON THE HALO it is different, for the height of the object etc. Understand the difference
He kind of is right though, isn't he? What Mercedes has done is pretty much a concept change. So they finally did what many other teams have done already from the beginning by copying Ferrari's sidepod solution.
Those changes + what seemed to be better drivability and traction thank to spec 2.1 would make them be as competitive as their rivals on slow track sections.
