if i am not wrong sauber was long gone.. ericsson's swiss sponsors rescued the team and backed it with the same name. But now with ericsson gone so does his sponsor.. and hence the name sauber disappears.

Hmm, a strange decision IMO.
What point is there to advertise both brands from FIAT in the same series? A somewhat limited involvement by Alfa Romeo was somewhat more clear and transparent. Now they tout it as "works" Alfa Romeo team, which it isn't. Can't see much sense in it.

Very very many people do not know or care about a FIAT, Ferrari, Alfa connection.

Updated topic title and first post accordingly. Note that the official website still is called www.sauberf1team.com. Should that change and I did not pick up on that, let me know.

Ericsson's backers are still running the team but they are Swedish/Scandinavian and motorsport enthusiasts...

They had the chance to sign Kimi Raikkonen instead and took it (Ferrari chooses the other driver as part of the technical deal and picked Giovinazzi). So Ericsson is off to race in Indycar still with Longbow backing and Alfa Romeo Sauber becomes Alfa Romeo which would have been the original plan.

I'll miss the name but last year everyone was still calling the team Sauber, for marketing reasons they had to become Alfa Romeo.

Both brands? Ferrari is not FIAT(FCA) owned anymore.

Well, both Ferrari and FIAT have the same biggest shareholder, a Dutch company called EXOR NV, under control of the Angelli family. John Elkann is CEO of all the three companies (Ferrari, Fiat and EXOR). So yes, technically FIAT doesn't own Ferrari, but in real life they do.
