Why would you run wide and extend turn 3 if you can easily hold it flat on a tighter line? He did the same on his pole lap last year. As for turn 10, it's not 100% certain going on the kerb is actually faster imo.
You could run wide and carry more speed. You could also run wide but carry the same speed and by opening up the turn put less energy into the tires. Considering C5s really aren't suited for Barcelona putting less energy in them is important.
Yes, I understand that by having less steering lock you naturally have less tyre scrub and thus can maintain higher speed, but in this particular corner and with these cars (2018-2019) this does not seem to be neccesary and is probably even losing a bit of time with the extra distance you have to take, because the grip is so high there's almost no tyre scrub at the point where normally you'd have to run wide. His pole lap last year more or less confirms this.
not quite right, if you run wider, you can maintain a higher speed before you turn into that corner and you can have a better traction on the exit (earlier on the accelaration) and therefor have a better exitspeed, compared to when you would take the turn shorter, you need to brake earlier for once.
and his pole lap can't really be compared to this years testing, to many things have changed, all the new stuff on the car, the tyre itself, the temperature is different... all things to consider, the whole car behaves differently
