Why is it always so much negativity surrounding ferrari even before the weekend starts.. even before thier packages arrive to the circuit...??
Ferrari are bringing updates to baku to get thier slow corners issues addressed. if those updates deliver then the straight line speed advantage with better performance at slow corners they would be untouchable... every team has had off weekends... In melborne Ferrari coudnt get thier car into window in addition to thier slow speed corner issues.. in bahrain Mercs and Redbulls had the same window issue...
Setting up the cars have been anything less of a ma-moth job.. so if ferrari can get it right... set-up wise.. i see them disappearing in the distance with Mercs in the trailing them by atleast 0.2 to 0.3 in quali and a health 20sec in race.
Fingers crossed..

Some Optimism plz....
Dont forget..our blood is.. REDDDDDDDD.........
#ForzaFerrari..
Ferrari fans have shown and continues showing "Optimism" since 2xxx every weekend. However "Optimism" hit back hard Sunday night, weekdays full of pain and shock.
[-o< for a happy week ahead !!!
yup no doubt many Sunday nights have haunted us Ferrari fans...but everytime a sunday night goes bad... the best thing to do first thing monday morning is to see some key scenes of batman begins movie..
The bit with Bruce and his dad..in which he asks "Why do we fall bruce??" and then answers "So that we can learn to pick ourselves up".. its the best way to keep optimism alive.. because its racing without optimism there is absolutely no point in doing it...

Hoping for a good weekend with very goood haul of points from this race for Ferrari.

The optimism is great at all, it's the learning part they seem to struggle with. #tenyears

You can't judge connected corners by just looking at minimum speeds. Bottas was slow through T8 but that's the cost for a better positioning for T9. He was so much earlier on full throttle than Riccardo at T9 exit. Bottas was at 151km/h when hitting on full throttle, while Ricc was at 164km/h. That gained him a lot on the T10-11 straight.

Bottas was the fastest through T9-11. He even managed to beat Lewis through that part, as shown on the mini sector vid from youtube.

For the same reason, Bottas did a poor T11-13 because his T11 was too greedy and that gave him a bad T12 positioning, which cost him quite a bit on the following long-ass straight.
I know all of that, but the Renault was up there on the "unconnected" corners too(bar the last corner). That, together with it's great top speed, means that they should have been A LOT closer to the front.

But even on the connected corners, Ricciardo had the wrost line throughout the fastest corner(he was too wide on the previous corner and thus had a worse entry positioning to the following corner) and still was the fastest(I think there is something wrong with the Renault's speedometer. Probably it is calibrated differently than the others) by some margin(10kmh faster than Bottas)

One of my least favorite circuits. Not a big fan of the heavily DRS assisted turn1 overtakes.
Expecting an easy Mercedes 1-2.
agree with everything. The corners aren't daunting, the layout is boring and the overtakings, if happen, will be totally artificial. Imo, this is going to be an easy pole and victory by LH

Agreed.

Bottas seems to be comfortable around here.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him snatch pole, and have a strong race pace.

You mean the Bottas who qualified 3rd, was very distant 3rd during the race and sort of lucked into a winning position through circumstance, strategy and Vettels error on the safety car restart? Yeah he was very unfortunate to have that puncture, but likewise also very fortunate to even be in that position.

But yeah, wouldnt be surprised if Bottas again shows strong pace. He was “only” 1.5 tenths down on Lewis in Q3 last year.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

I don't know what OP meant but your condescending tone does not much reality of last year's race. Bottas simply outraced Hamilton stretched his stints and deserved position at the time of a puncture. He didn't mess up restart like Vettel either.

Sick and tired of outright driver fanatism (starts with an H) twisting every single damn aspect of every single event when their hero is not good enough, like 2018 Baku. If they can't twist it they create alternative ones like brave overtake in Melbourne without the floor damage  .WTF #-o ?

I was just stating facts. Bottas was no where most of the race and he certainly did not outrace Hamilton. Hamilton did have a lock up because he was pushing to stay close to Vettel that compromised his stint somewhat, but Bottas went long because Mercedes had nothing to lose and was gambling on a safety car that did happen. No fanboism here. Bottas was unlucky not to profit from a situation he ultimately lucked into on strategy.

This is right, Bottas lucked into a better strat. Nobody knew how fast it would be to stay on the same tyre and it worked out for him. Then the safety car came and that was that.

LOL at all the Bottas love. Hamilton will eat him alive before Mercedes even render thought of him being driver's world champion. The start in Australia has kept the Ocon questions away. That's all.

Your living in the clouds with this one mate. Last year Bottas lucked in to the lead massively, Maybe catch a re run of last years race. by lap 20, Lewis was over 6 seconds in front of Bottas and was setting fastest laps to try and stay with Vettel. Lewis then pitted, Bottas went long, and it turned out an old set of super softs was better than a new set of softs , hence why Max was able to repass Ricciardo by staying out longer than Danny. Bottas stayed out long and gained time from this and was able to hold a gap to Vettel and Lewis, even though Vettel would have been told to close the gap to Bottas, as he was too far behind in case of a safety car or VSC. Then the RedBulls did their thing, Bottas made a stop and took the lead , then all his good luck was taken away with some bad luck, and Vettel should have won if he hadn't have screwed his tyres at the restart.

If luck was not such a thing that day, it would have finished

So Peter Windsor does a post race debrief in his car sponsored by Rich Energy drinks. It's on you tube titled "How did Ferrari loose China". Amongst his ramblings he says Ferrari are a shoe in for the Monaco win and will be very strong in Baku. This is all prior to any updates being mentioned. Any thoughts on why his view is Ferrari will be strong around tight and slow tracks? He does seem to think the car is quite nimble.

Bottas is an average F1 driver in the best car. Lets not get carried away as he will only ever lose to Hamilton over a season.

It's like getting carried away about Ferrari standing a chance this year. It will only increase the eventual disappointment and heartache.

Even at non-connected corners, minimum speed is only half the story. Take T6 for example, I synced Vettel and Riccardo's telemetry to the same point of the brake padel lifting, and it lasted 12 frames before Vettel had a throttle input, 18 frames for Ricc. Vettel was 6 frames (=0.24s) earlier on throttle and that obviously means a better exit. So even Vettel had a lower minimum speed (78km/h vs Ricc's 83km/h) at the middle of T6, his better exit gained back more at the following straight. This is the same case at T14 (10 frames earlier). T15 Vettel hit the brake and throttle at the same time like he usually do, and that gave him a much better exit acceleration as well.

Riccardo pretty much loses every corner exit to Vettel. Vettel obviously sacrificed the entry to get a better exit. That's why Ricc had higher minimum speeds but still lost.

Not to mention his costly mistake at T13.
