New floor in development, should arrive in Silverstone. Will be worth several tenths to half a second.

For just a floor? That would be great, but surely it must be in conjunction with other bits....
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

The mid wing is part of the floor ...No sure if they're including that.

from will joseph on mclaren

WILL JOSEPH
In FP1 we usually test upgrades before settling on a package for both cars before FP2. We don’t have any specific upgrades here – but there are always aero test items. There are a few bits and pieces that we haven’t managed to test in France or Canada because there were more pressing test items. We’ll get the opportunity to look at those now.

WILL JOSEPH
Also, with three DRS zones, every straight has DRS, which means you can run more downforce for the corners and, in qualifying, you don’t get the drag penalty. If you’re qualifying-biased, you’ll tend to run slightly more downforce, and if you’re race-biased you’ll run slightly less.

WILL JOSEPH
The other question that will be on everyone’s mind is downforce level. There are different schools of thought. With the straights in Austria, the optimal aero scan will suggest taking downforce off the car. The race engineer school of thought says it’s going to be very hot and keeping downforce on the car will be beneficial.

FYI for those that don't dip into the car thread. Apparently it is only too heavy because it was a modular test piece, not because of a design flaw or manufacturing error. It was not sent back for rework but rather they are waiting for the final and complete single unit racing piece.

Given the fact it has already been tested, I'd like to think there is certainly a good chunk of time to come for Silverstone. Fingers crossed.

Another clean (mostly) session for McLaren. Most laps of all on both cars, ran qualy and race sims, don't know how the times look but the sheer consistency of their programme makes it looks promising.

Car looks quick in qually trim again, Lando ran wide on his attempt so didn't get a representative lap. Haas seems to have swapped places with Renault this weekend, such an odd swing in performance, yet McLaren consistent in that 4th best position. I'm slowly starting to really believe that they are indeed best of the rest.

It also seemed to me that long run pace was very decent on all 3 compounds. Would love to confirm it later on when the data becomes available.

Encouraging, it’s becoming increasingly evident that contrary to the suggestions of the so-called experts, the MCL34 has a very good baseline design.

High temperatures will benefit Haas this weekend, I believe they will be the biggest threat to McL this GP

McLaren showing some very good pace once again. They seem to be comfortably ahead of everyone in the midfield except Perez. They're almost on pace with the top 3 around here.

Whatever McLaren is doing is working well. =D>
