What about Ferrari engine ERS deployment in this very short lap?

Cooling problems caused Mercedes to turn down their PUs, which cost them 6 tenths of a second in qualifying today.
it's interesting indeed - but I guess no team is able to run the normal configuration at these temperatures. So this number probably does not reflect the time loss compared to Ferrari, for example.

Now that makes sense! Christian Horner was telling Sky F1 in FP3 that Mercedes had a comfortable margin so I was surprised with their struggles in qualy. The top 3 cars in qualy did a brilliant job. I thought they'd already solved the cooling issues with their Barcelona changes although it resurfaced in Montreal.

Anyway, the cooling issues might unfortunately hamper Hamilton's chance of a victory tomorrow - hopefully not.

Hamilton will start P4 now.

Back on for a spicy one.

Much better but some part of me feels starting from P5 on the clean side of the grid would have been better for him. Fingers crossed he gets a good start. If he could clear Bottas off the start, he and Verstappen could be on the back of Leclerc at some point if the soft tyres struggle in tomorrow's predicted heat.

Better still, an unexpected rain like on Thursday would spice it up even more!
Yeah, I think being able to draft the front row and have a chance to mix it up a bit in the first few corners helps cancel out the dirty side disadvantage. Plus the added benefit of being next to your teammate at the start.

Also of interesting note . . .

Cooling problems caused Mercedes to turn down their PUs, which cost them 6 tenths of a second in qualifying today.
Out of nothing? Why didn't they react to that by bringing their wider engine cover outlet instead of the tightest? Makes a bit less sense, considering it's a flawless team like Mercedes.

Who knows. Was reported on by a tech journo that covers Ferrari for "FUnoAnalisiTecnica.com"

Yep. That's actually who the original source was quoting time loss to: Ferrari, specifically.

I'll still wait for other sources to corroborate it, but this guy has been pretty accurate before.

This should make some people stop the provocation. Let's move on to this year's race.
Interesting coming from the first member in thread to start the provocative posting. I'm so thoroughly enjoying watching some of the fans this season.

Let’s see, if Hamilton will get his deserved penalty. My assumption is no.

thanks, it is isn't it, minimum speed vs maximum, the whole lap. Then tomorrow it's race modes, fuel, tyres, cooling, and now hopefully Lewis not stuck behind Lando

:P
„Deserved penalty“ = Not only my opinion
„My assumption is no“ = Was my honest assumption, considering FIA’s laughable decision making

No provocation such as putting other drivers into play at all.
