I don't think the RB15 is being pushed, no way he's slower than Gasly. I think the true gap is less than .8, .5 seems more realistic, but may even out over a race stint.
Could it be that a 2 stop will actually work?
You were right. Binotto confirmed that yesterday. They destroyed the tyres on one lap pace, too - in S3 they were gone already, hence their incompetitive times (despite reportedly being in higher engine modes).dans79 wrote: ↑12 Jul 2019, 17:01Ferrari seems to be destroying their front tires. I was watching Lewis's and Charles's on-boards during the long runs and Charles's front looked really bad compared to Lewis's. We don't know fuel loads of course but one would think they would at-least be representative.
I don't think this means anything. In Austria, Mercedes had even bigger advantage on long runs but it turned out completely differently.
It is also downforce. Silverstone is a high downforce track with fast corners. The Mercedes excels this year in fast corners with downforce high.Restomaniac wrote: ↑12 Jul 2019, 18:02What I don’t understand if that this isn’t a new situation. Austria was a complete outlier as the temps were miles out of the norm yet some pointed to it as proof that Ferrari had made huge steps on Mercedes.dans79 wrote: ↑12 Jul 2019, 17:01Ferrari seems to be destroying their front tires. Put Austria back in the normal temp ranges and it’s possible that Mercedes are right back at the front.
There is no temperature threat like there was in Austria. Merc would have done great at Austria if it hadn't been so hot that prompted their bodywork to be opened up so much.
in Austria both were setting a more or less equal pace on Friday, on the mediums Ferrari was even quicker. So no, it was in no way similar to yesterday
Again, Ferrari has zero problem in high speed corners, but whenever the cornering speed drops below 250km/h, it loses to Mercedes.Juzh wrote: ↑13 Jul 2019, 11:17bottas p1 lap from fp2
