When was the last time Mercedes did not win the race when it was wet? Answer: never in the hybrid era.
Flip it around, Merc were never good in slow speed corners and tracks for good chassis, that is until this year. It is clear they dont have the engine and aero supremacy they once had. So that record you mention will be broken very soon. In fact i expect Honda engines to do well in the rain ala Japan last year.
If you think increased mechanical grip (which slow speed corners rely on) is going to hurt them in the wet you have a nast suprise coming on the next wet race . It is crucial in the wet.McMika98 wrote: ↑25 Jul 2019, 23:44Flip it around, Merc were never good in slow speed corners and tracks for good chassis, that is until this year. Yeah, I think if you asked Verstappen he would like to run the race tomorrow in the 39 degrees heat because that would be Austria revisited. However Sat and Sun look to be conditions that are a disadvantage for RB: relatively cool, wet (less aero dependant, more mechanical which was their strength until this year) and windy (as shown before the RB15 does not like wind).
Anything more grip(aero or mechanical) will help in the rain.Pyrone89 wrote: ↑26 Jul 2019, 00:02If you think increased mechanical grip (which slow speed corners rely on) is going to hurt them in the wet you have a nast suprise coming on the next wet race . My two pence is that aero grip is more important than mechanical in wet condition. Besides the superior mechanical grip they have on normal track condition will disappear immediately when you get a wet track. Aint no such thing as mechanical grip with wet tyres on tarmac flush with water. Engine throttle mapping is also as important. Saying all that the Merc still have better aero this year than all teams, but we will see.
This is also just a 1:13 lap
in one moment Gasly was 1.9s behind Max. and finally Max failed 0.030 behind Ham.
