Verstappen new wet king, this was a GOAT-level performance
Umm not really. I dont think he drove his best nor better than others out there. Bottas had the better of him and he was actually saved by his not being able to cope with the conditions as he came in to the pits for the first set of inters. kuddos to redbull for making the right calls every single time.
This race didnt showcase any driver skill for any of the drivers. It was just a big crap shoot.
I think there have been more epic wet races than this one.
The midfield guys were the stars. Vettel on maz on the podium but i cant really say any of them drove as well as the midfielders.
I politely disagree. It was a crap shoot in the sense that almost all drivers made mistakes, as it is impossible not to in these conditions. But how many mistakes you make and what the impact of these mistakes are is largely up to the driver.

I mean look at Bottas and Hamilton. Identical cars identical offs, only Hamilton chooses to go with the spin and rotate the car and Bottas tries to catch the drift. The former was obviously the better reaction.

Same with the last two corners. Raikkonen, Hamilton and Leclerc had their offs at exactly the same point but not with the same outcome. Raikkonen and Hamilton clearly tried to get as much speed out of the car trying to get the front wheels to catch. Raikkonen made the most use of the remaining bit of grippy track to slow down the the car once he realized he was not going to make it and escaped undamaged. Leclerc had his issue relatively early in the corner, (actually came out of the last corner unbalanced), but made one more attempt at getting the car turned in which cost him valuable meters in getting the car stopped.

I don’t believe that is down to luck alone, but also carries a good deal of experience, car feel and skill. In that sense I like tracks to be unforgiving like this.

Leclerc said it's unacceptable to have such a slippery bit of tarmac on an F1 circuit ... but since it's probably the last race there for a long time it doesn't matter anymore
Except of course, it's not on the circuit. Don't go off the track if you don't want to drive on slippery tarmac

That's also only in the rain, seeing that its a drag strip its most likely very sticky when dry

Drawing parallels with last year we see the championship leader spinning off...:D Of course it's a silly comparison I'm just saying Mercedes is not going to win this championship easily the way this season is developing the last three races, who would've thought in France. And let's be honest merc as a team, ham and bot as drivers had a dreadful day today, the bulletproof-ness has some cracks to show. Looking forward to the rest of the season.
Red Bull is going to start racking up the PU penalties after the summer break.
Only one expected in Monza. Then Honda spec. 4.0 till the end. Game on.
When I look at the rest of the season, I'm going to be assuming that the Ferraris will be, on average, qualifying higher than 10th and 20th. Which will make life a tiny bit harder for RBR.

The way it's going so far suggests they may take two penalites. Two more engines. Hardly racking it in.

Comparing it to last year, Ham got to 1st not by a bunch of safety cars, luck and crazy goings on but pure performance throughout.

I guess rain, SC, leader crashing, unpenalised cheating and team orders had nothing to do with it.

People landed on moon 50 years ago, maybe it's for you to land on earth.

Indeed, it was just pure racing lights to flag, boring race nothing really happened last year. #-o

Turn 1 spin, Lewis had different steering wheel input comparing to Bottas', which helped him escaping the crash.

It is good to see some of you twisting and turning the facts, because they can’t stand reality.

Why do you feel the need to ridicule the performance of others- in this case Verstappens?

Or Vettel from 20th to 2nd..

I think Hamilton did the same in 2014- same track, far more superior car- and everybody was over the moon by it.

Yup, the "brilliant drive here" or there is all nonsense. And 'Vettel from 20th to 2nd". So what, Stroll went from 20th with 20 laps to go to leading the race for half a lap to finishing 4th in the end was it. Comparing it to last year, Ham got to 1st not by a bunch of safety cars, luck and crazy goings on but pure performance throughout.
May I disagree with that? It was obvious Vettel's car setup was for dry weather. His intermediates were already worn out by the 5th lap of the stint. Also, he made brilliant passes in the early phase of the race which got him up to 7th behind Kimi. After that he couldn't do anything, because of tire degradation and dry setup. Why do you think Mercedes guys couldn't do anything in the dry (Bottas couldn't get pass Stroll and Hamilton stuck outside the points)? Because they had wet weather setup...

On the second part of the comment, Vettel was P10 when it was dry. He made up 8 positions. Hamilton started 14th, he was P13 at the end of the first lap, he overtook the midfield and was P4-P5 by the end of lap 9-10. Vettel had that unfortunate crash, and Hamilton jumped his main competitors Raikkonen and Bottas who went into the pits. As good as that performance was, I wouldn't call it one without "safety cars, luck and crazy goings on".

DoTD for me is Kvyat, especially for the outlap after the last pitstop and the last stint in general. He essentially caught up an extra pitstop to Stroll and at least 5 seconds to Max, pretty impressive! Great performances by Max and Vettel, as well as Stroll, Sainz and Albon, solid drive from the Merc guys up until the moment when it started to dry out. Hats off to Kubica for scoring his first point since his return.

This is actually very interessting.

HAM is like trying to control, not hit anything, still fighting to stay on track
BOT is like giving up

This crash show the difference in fighting spirit, it is not just luck IMHO

- Very interesting indeed. Attempt to spin Hamilton's failure into a virtue and belittling the other driver  . Not new but interesting  .

- Not comparable (track, tyres and I'm guessing speed) and meaningless. What's also missing is another off track (no "fighting spirit" there?) and a penalty.

- Driver bias and ignorance is off the charts in those threads recently (particularly reletad to one driver.) e.i. fighting spirit in a high speed corner spin when a driver is a passenger.

edit: Speaking of perhaps bias. I'm not sure about it (gaps) but why didn't they pit Bottas again? Thier groveling explanation to LewHam was (obviously) that with a penalty it would cost him.

Are you sure you watched the 2019 German GP@? :wtf:
True GOATs don’t need the help of superior material to win.

Tom Brady, Usain Bolt are true GOATs.

This is Hamilton's second spin, he already had some practice ;-)
