But some people here are acting like VER was ‘beaten’ by HAM in driving skill which was obviously not the case. It is quite hypocritical when we make fun of the strategy guys when they mess up but not give credit when they get the win. HAM and Merc acknowledged it was the strategy guys today with their post race comments and Vowles on the podium.

Max was beaten by a better strategy driven in a slightly better car by a driver able to deliver the laps. Take one of those out and Max wins. So Max was beaten by Lewis (because Lewis did his bit), he was also beaten by Lewis's strategists and by Lewis's team. Which is probably why on the slow down lap he was fairly laid back "second's ok, good points" etc on the radio.

This is actually a good thing. We now have a situation where winning is not a foregone conclusion from being in a Mercedes. That must be welcome to all, surely.

It does make one wonder at what point Bottas becomes tail gunner for the rest of the season. If Max/RBR are able to replicate this weekend a couple more times then Mercedes will be looking to Bottas to do the wingman thing for the rest of the season. Bottas needs perfect weekends in Spa and Monza.

Hamilton brilliant with a brilliant team call with them being second and in a position to do so.
Verstappen brilliant but being in first they couldn’t roll the dice like Mercedes could also a more grown up drive from Verstappen including taking all the points available by not fighting an unwinbale fight late on.
Ferrari nowhere and shockingly bad. As where the other Mercedes and RedBull drivers.

There we go. Pretty accurate summarisation I'd say. Mercedes did make a good call, but frankly it was also a call they would not loose out with anyhow and was kinda logic. Verstappen on the other hand was not in the position to do so.

I think both Hamilton and Verstappen in their respective cars had quite similar pace. I don't think it is fair to call one better over the other in this particular instance (and honestly, Rosberg should have kept his mouth shut over it). That does shame to both really. Both drove well; Hamilton and Mercedes just were better positioned. That's what made the difference.

Merc. and Hamilton won this in the first stint, when they extended and put Red Bull & Max in a position where they had to push on new hards for a good 3-4 laps to retain the lead. Those 3-4 laps came back to bite them in the a$$ in the end.

Yes, agreed. They played it very well and I am sure this scenario was one of the ones talked through. It was perhaps Max his loss when Bottas got taken by Hamilton after the start. Of course Lewis executed to perfection.

Maybe RBR should have tried to up the pace in the second stint even more (If that was possible at all?) and then preempt an undercut. Horner when asked so by chandhok was not willing to entertain that option post race.

Likely Lewis and his merc were just to quick. Great race, very tense and Hungary almost never is.

100% agree. Basically this sums it up nicely and nuanced.

You can also add that these 2 today absolutely humiliated the rest of the driver/team combo’s today although Bottas was screwed by Leclerc (really starting to dislike him to be honest).

Last week Max pulled a gap 3 times, just acknowledge he is doing something OK.

He only pulled away from Hulk, stroll, Kyvat... the 3 laps he was ahead of bottas was when Max was on fresh tyre to Bottas 20 lap old tyres...again due to strategy and thanks to the gap pulled away from Hulk!

Did anyone notice when Kvyat overtook Albon, for a brief moment all 4 wheels were off the track? His right wheels were on the curb (about 1:29 in the F1 highlight video). Surely if the stewards want to be consistent, they have to either penalise Kvyat or ask him to give the place back. I would say going off track and it was a lasting advantage.

I think they were more lenient as it are 1. teammates that 2. are not fighting for the WDC win.
