The announcement was a bit strange from my POV...
No quotes from Horner and / or Albon.
Just "they are swapping drivers".
I somehow have the impression something went wrong behind the scenes...but just a feeling.
I share that feeling. Wouldn’t surprise me if this is the result of some personal fallout.
Perhaps he has not been picking up Helmut's phonecalls.
Sad to see of course, but to be honest I found his last performances in the track cringeworthy. I can understand that he has an issue with the car, but the way he was letting people by without even attempting to defend his position. It looked that he had already given up and was just sitting out the races.
Maybe the rumour that Vettel wanted to return to red bull was true and they were sticking with Gasly because he would be replaced with Vettel next season anyway. If the deal with Vettel fell through, suddenly they need to start testing drivers for next season
or its nothing like you wrote at all and Vettel wasn't in the picture, and maybe RB (Marko & Horner) just decided that Gasly was bad in what he was doing, driving a F1 car that has the potencial of beating Ferrari and Gasly just wasn't up to the task at all to be in a top team
to sum it up:
- wrecked 2 cars preseason
- Qualipace 0.5-0.8s off the pace Verstappen drove .... with the same material as Verstappen had
- Racepace 0.8 - 1.0s off the pace Verstappen did, besides that being lapped by his teammate in 2 races... with the same material and setup as Verstappen had.
- don't forgett to mention the crash he had at the GermanGP with Albon (whom overtook him twice by the way)
forgotten anything???
but Vettel had nothing to do with this decision, this was made because RB seems to think Albon can get the points needed to lift RB onto the 2nd place in WCC
