So any thoughts on how Ferrari couldn't challenge the RB in Q3? I'm surprised Ferrari couldn't lock out the front row by miles and also surprised Merc were closer towards the end.
One word, tires!

According to me the pretty green track has given some more advantage to high downforce cars instead of low drag ones.

Yeah the only thing that made sense to me was the track evolution post rain. Maybe the extra water vapour in the air bode well for those with better aero too /tinfoil

I was surprised on how close it was at the end and that it was not a Ferrari being on pole, as well. Tires might be one explanation, but it was a strong performance from RBR regardless. They love this circuit and have always been fast here.

Strong comeback from Mercedes too.

No one tells him not to be an aggressive driver, but seeing such a big collision on the side and yellow flags, but still not slowing down AND talking crap after the session, is not really gentleman-like.
Couldn’t agree more... Pretty bad attitude towards the incident... There is an expectation to at least use common sense.

I wonder if Ferrari decided it was actually better not to be on pole? Long drag down to T1! Also the noise is building about how inexplicably fast they are, perhaps they thought a low profile on that front might be the wise thing as well

I'm sure Bottas thought the same thing up until his front left wheel exited the track solo. Same with all the drivers who kept their foot down until they ploughed into another car. It's not his fault though. It's the culture the sport is encouraging. The more the Stewards actively encourage 'good, hard racing' the more this will happen.
This wasn’t “hard racing”, this was a disregard of the rules, the safety of a fellow driver and of the road individuals at the track assisting that driver...

The fact that he finds it humorous shows he doesn’t really understand the seriousness of the incident.

and if you understood more about body language, you would know that he talked without thinking and felt he couldn't answer the question any differently and the laugh is not ment humorous but more shy like "i am aware and i am sorry about it"

More like, the circuit's terrible barrier design with a sudden break jutting out in the middle of an otherwise smooth curve destroyed the car. Thank God they've invested a lot in the survival structure otherwise the sensors would've been the least of everyone's concerns.

as far as i know drivers are to rely on the signal given on the steeringwheel

So the FIA is going to turn this into another "the driver admitted it, the telemetry showed he didn't slow down, there was THE ACTUAL --- FLAG out but eh... sensors and ...eh computers" nonsense

If that's the case, why do marshals have flags? if they mean nothing. Surely that can't be right.

Don't forget yellow flag sensor tolerances!
