They drained the battery to undercut Verstappen, but could still recharge it on the lap after Verstappen rejoined the track behind Lewis. But at that point Hamilton was trying to overtake LeClerc to prevent Verstappen from catching up and probably was using the battery in an agressive deployment mode.

I suspect that if Lewis recharged immediately after the undercut, he wouldn’t be able to overtake LeClerc and Verstappen would be on his tail just the same.

Remember Verstappen was also faster in the last corner before the uphill straight, equal with power and drag and has the tow. Really unbeatable this race.

it generally takes a couple of laps to charge the battery, but yes at that point they'd've needed all the luck to be on their side to keep Max behind wouldn't they. He was just faster. But later on, after the second stops, they were on for a long stint to the end on the same tyres, and Lewis' had been lasting better than Max's, so it would've been a great F1 contest. It was so annoying that they ruined it with the completely unnecessary safety car

Bit harsh to blame the strategy team there. They got him out in front of Verstappen and it was only because he got stuck behind leclerc that he got overtaken again. If he managed to stay ahead I don' think Verstappen had enough pace to get by under normal conditions. At that point their decision at the safety car would probably become a lot easier.

HAM kind of messed himself up by passing LEC too late AND too early. Too early whereas HAM didn't get drs but allowed VER to get it off LEC.

Why do they give him a new engine for just one race. Just put in spec 2, titles are sealed.
Or will they let the spec3 go full beans? Some sort of test perhaps?

Tin foil hat people will say it's a 2020 spec 1 motor so they can use it in the tire tests next week.

Reading comments from Toto and Lewis I don't think it's as rosy as we think within the team, a lot of uncertainty hanging about to me.

Drivers that win the championship are allowed to run the #1 in all sessions, if they wish.

Hamilton prefers #44, so he just runs the #1 briefly because it's a great honor to the team, particularly the mechanics and engineers.

Interesting watch here on Angela Cullen. Apparently she was passed over by a number of F1 drivers, Hamilton hired her after one interview.
