Scuderia Ferrari SF91?? Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Any bets on car name? pattern suggests SF91
SF90 is derived from years of Scuderia ferrari. I dont think 91 will be of any significance.
I would welcome a return to F2020

The downforce will come from a redesigned bargeboard area, and improved power unit packaging.
I think a shrink-wrapped style engine cover à la Mercedes could unlock some performance at the rear.
That'll be quite a challenge as this year Ferrari only used one small radiator on top of the engine. I assume they rely heavly on the sidepod radiators.
That can change, in 2018 they had a big round airbox, this year they slimmed down significantly into a triangle shaped one.
Maybe they split the duties differently for 2020.

Still barge boards re-designed in which fashion? They seem to be converging to me, Ferrari was one of the late ones to horizontal elements but now they got them too.

What has been crossing my mind is a shorter wheelbase, it's hella risky, but i'm not sure high rake and long wheelbase match so well, Mercedes makes the wheelbase work but with low rake, Red Bull has a huge rake but a much shorter wheelbase... Ferrari is almost as long as Merc and almost as raked as RB... Maybe choose one?

The difference is 3 inches from longest to shortest car.

Indeed so. This whole idea that the cars are hugely different in wheelbase is laughable.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Now everyone launches within a couple of days of each other...
Let's see what kind of program they have for this season, last year i kept expecting updates but no the launch car was pretty much what was found in the first couple of races.

I`ve read somewhere that they went for a major redesign of the engine and its surrounding components, despite they presumably have the most powerful unit. This might be an indicator for a "shrink wrap" type of Engine cover.

And they are aiming for more downforce, let's see how they get there, tighter sidepods maybe?

Via PG Tech on Twitter:
Simone Resta is the Head of Chassis Engineering, therefore the person responsible for the engineering of the chassis, its design and its development. As already said weeks ago, he worked and is still working on the 2020 # F1 # Ferrari2020 car
I thought Simone Resta would not design the 2020 car yet, but from 2021 on?

That was what Ferrari originally told us, Resta would focus on the 2021 season.

Maybe they are doing a "all hands on deck" ahead of 2020 launch/season start.

i don`t know why they are always pretending to have an "efficient" car and lacking in corner speed hence downforce. In my view this is only media blahblah from Mr. Binotto. They should focus on eintirely laptime. The most efficient car is basically a car which is winning races.

In 2017 they had more downforce and drag than Mercedes, but they still lost. 2018 the balance was more towards Ferrari, and they still lost. 2019 the gap increased to 2017 levels, except the Mercedes was the one with more drag and downforce. 2020 they'll have a much better car, won't be as fast in a straight line as 2019 or 2018, although faster than 2017, and it'll keep up in the turns.

I just hope they don't implode again.
