It's too early to start being worried about pace.

McLaren appear to be doing far more evaluation work that most teams. Started the test evaluating the base aero platform using front wing, bargeboard and floor concepts from last season so they have a direct comparison. Now they have a new front wing this morning, and again evaluation and comparison. This afternoon it's apparently a new cape and turning vanes under the nose. Next Wednesday they are bringing a new floor, possibly with new bargeboard elements. They are systematically bringing in new parts from front to back, so they understand each area specifically as opposed to trying to figure out the whole thing in one go. Smart move! I really don't think we'll see the car driven in anger until the final couple of days.

From the long runs the past 2 days, the consistency has been fantastic, they're clearly driving to a delta. Not sure if we can take much away from that either! Only thing we can really say for sure is they still look a bit weak in S3, but until they have the complete car giving it the full beans, I'll not be too worried.
Do you think what’s on the car is the final iteration of the front suspension? I’m wondering if the package expected next week could include tweaks in that area.
I think it will be more about bargeboard floor tweak and diffuser
I agree, the major changes will be aero, the whole car concept is driven by a focus on aero this year. I don't think being slow in S3 means a fundamental lack of mechanical grip due to the front suspension layout. They'll probably test with POU in the second week, but they will already fully understand what that would bring to the car. I think the importance of having POU is very overstated. It's not the be-all and end-all of front suspension geometry.

I just saw details from hamilton and verst race sim and they are 1 s quicker than us sometimes even more we must improve the car in all areas if we want the 4 spot this time its gonna be a war this year

Actually that’s a huge expectation, we were 1.2-1.6 seconds behind the top 3 last season, to make such a jump during winter with stable regulations is a huge task and very unlikely... That’s why the team has always talked abut closing the gap, not joining them.

Honestly I'm not worried about 4th place RP would not develop that concept that Mercedes discard due to development issues so I don't think rp is as good as people as over rating it just because it looks like a Mercedes if it's that easy than everyone would start copying Mercedes then that's not how things work in F1 there are lot to it than just visual similarities

As for McLaren is the Gap is less than a second like 5-6 tenths on race pace they would be pretty happy with it

RP20 and AT01 with 2020 engines vs W10 and RB15 with 2019 engines...

I'd say there's a real chance the Racing Point and Alpha Tauri will be faster head to head than the originals
