Formula 1 will not be racing at the Australian GP this weekend in the wake of a McLaren team member contracting coronavirus.

It is understood that the majority of teams decided against racing at Albert Park during talks held on Thursday night.

F1 and the FIA are expected to formally announce the move.

This comes from a a talk with a team principle who was at the meeting where the majority of teams didn't want to continue in the present circumstances

It's not off because we're a team down, I'm sure they would have been prepared to do that, it's entirely on health and safety grounds.

I am curious if anyone knows (or thinks) that Sky Sport will still go on-air when Practice 1 was scheduled to be televised. I am thinking they might actually do that simply to discuss what's going on. They are all there, they'd probably get good viewer numbers too.

Believe it or not, some of us (soon to be most of us) are actually affected and threatened by COVID-19. You will be too, soon enough, if you add the impact to economy etc. But apart from that, some of us actually have loved ones to worry about who are well into the risk group and are taking it serious enough.

That's quite a bold millennial-esque way of thinking everything that's around can be shaped or controlled as desired.

Avoiding the global spread is starting about 3 months late, that's the main issue. And aside that, those first 10/15 days of incubation makes it stealth to anyone, and therefor successful.

I have been an avid F1 fan for many years, but I cannot remember a single year that I have been longing more for a season to start.

I am in one of the corona hotspots. I am lucky in many ways. I am healthy, I have a job that I can do at home, I am well stocked. But the isolation is tough. A lot harder than I imagined beforehand. And to consider that it will last for a couple of months is a pretty bleak outlook.

So you can call F1 just entertainment. Call it selfish, but I guess at the rate this is progressing we’re all going to need entertainment, more than anything else. I would not only consider the risk but also the value.

And what about the 300.000 people who are coming to the circuit? You think that is responsible? Who cares about the 'pecking order', that isn't the priority right now. We can see the pecking order when we are ready to race at a venue where it is save for the teams, drivers en spectators. The way you are commenting on this and saying it is 'torture' is really selfish when you sit at home and don't need to worry about a possible infection.

This corona virus is not gonna go out easily, so are you saying all races where people come should be cancelled?
Is the entire season going to be cancelled??
They need to find a solution for this, very soon.

I blame McLaren. They should have taken measures to protect their personel or test them before they go to Australia. This goes for all teams. Everybody knew the situation. Did the FIA expected that the virus would have subsided in a matter of days? They have to tell us what is the reason they are calling it off. Is it because of McLaren or is it because of the virus in general? Either way, they really f@#%d this up.They might as well call the entire championship off and move on to 2021.

I am as serious as one can be. We are facing a global virus outbreak. Shouldn't F1 teams and the FIA taken more strict measures? Shouldn't all team members be tested 2 weeks prior to departure and a second time right before departure? Shouldn't the FIA ensure that everything is ok before allowing the teams to fly to Australia? From the moment they gave the GP the green light they should have been! I really am perplexed that you are calling me names just because i have a different opinion than yours. I am guessing this apply to everyone you meet and talk that are not in line with you.
